Is there a book that explains why seemingly every other zoomer/millenial is depressed as fuck? Even this generation's music has become strikingly depressing according to scientists

>> No.16243212

it's because no one has parents that are involved in their lives and we can live totally in ersatz, nothing is normal, social media is a feedback loop that crystallizes your most trivial childhood fascinations into your entire identity to motivate you in consumption and hypergamy is reaching a level that will probably make society collapse in a few generations

millenials were told to go to college and to study hard. just as they were graduating, economy collapsed and many ended up working at shit jobs that have nothing to do with what they studied, and they are being told they are "entitled snowflakes" just as they are being denied the same things boomers had

those boomers seem to actively hate us and specifically vote for parties that are dead set on destroying our future: either spineless libs who will do nothing and let the world burn or right-wing nuts who will actively stoke the the flames.

climate change is something that we were told about in schools for years and the politicians are saying it's not real or that they will do nothing about it.

besides that, the state institutions are being destroyed trough privatization, the economy is fake and only exists for the benefit of rich assholes.

and I even didn't mentioned niggers or foreigners yet. if you're the former, you'll be shot on the street for walking too fast and if you're the latter, usa will invade your country and destroy it and you'll have to deal with fucking cia glownigger-funded terrorist who will behead you for stupid shit or, if you're lucky you'll escape in a shitty boat and drown in the middle of mediterranean sea because europeans think you're all terrorists

All jobs have been outsorced to shitholes so Western kids have no meaning left in their lives other than being another drone serving consumerist interests and political discourse. I don't slaving away for 12 hours every day in Ford's car factory, or breaking your back in the fields for your feudal lord, would make one any happier than consooming social media for the same amount of time. Both activities are soulless and passive, they drain away at your spirit.
You have to turn to something to cope with the tedium: whether it's drinking until you get an ulcer, or shitposting about depression under 3 layers of irony, I think the root cause is the same, people are alienated from genuine human relationships. We either replaced humans with material goods, or see humans as things, and aren't able to connect with each other, but the end result is the same. All throughout history teens have been angsty, self-loathing and self-absorbed, but zoomers took those traits to new heights. The melancholy and loneliness of wealth, decadence and being "useless men" used to be the privilege of the rich, but now has become the plague of the common man.

People have already touched on some of the main reasons. I think the overwhelming thing is how hopeless any meaningful change appears to be. What are we meant to do about of this? Vote? The political system seems inoperable and unaccountable to the people. Protest? Grassroots movements tend to fizzle out into embarrassing larps without any meaningful goals or leadership. Social media is increasingly hostile and polarised, you can't just 'stay away' from politics, it's fucking everywhere and bleeds into everything. Everything is culture war bullshit that seems designed to passively feed you ideology and make you think everyone else despises your group. It's exhausting.

The news is the worst. How does anyone stay plugged into that for an extended duration and not go insane? How much mental energy is wasted on things that seem to fade into irrelevance as soon as the media switches its focus. Remember the Mueller report? ISIS? The Iran shit at the start of the year? It seems like we just wake up and one day and something is breaking news and it's the biggest, most dramatic event ever and then a week later we just forget it happened.

Would like to write about how jobs are increasingly abstract, precarious, short-lived and producing little thats tangible, but can't be bothered.

>"Today's society is no longer Foucault's disciplinary world of hospitals, madhouses, prisons, barracks, and factories. It has long been replaced by another regime, namely a society of fitness studios, office towers, banks, airports, shopping malls, and genetic laboratories. [...] Disciplinary society is still governed by a no. Its negativity produces madmen and criminals. In contrast, achievement society creates depressives and losers. [...] Depression is the sickness of a society that suffers from excessive positivity. It reflects a humanity waging war on itself."

The current trend of depressed young people will not last forever. I see three things happening in the future which will fix this issue, for better or for worse.

1. A global spiritual awakening. I think people will turn to old faiths, new ones (extreme nationalism a la CCP, or Neo-paganism in the West for example) to fill the void that modernity's rejection of religion has left. I think the rise of tradcaths, woke progressives, neo-pagans and magick practitioners are all hints of what is to come. (Sure, these people may be LARPing, but these things always start as LARPs.)

2. Global isolationism in the face of global warming. In 2015, Europe got it’s first taste of mass migration, and a wave of anti-progressive, anti-immigration neo-reactionaries rose to power as a result. The AfD’s rise to a prominent party in Germany would have been unthinkable a decade ago, but here we are. As global warming leads to mass migrations on a scale never seen before, I expect these movements to win, and for individual countries to become isolationist. This is further compounded by the stresses global warming is going to place on the global economy, which may not survive the ecological pressures. As a result, trade will become more localized, with goods traveling less from source to destination. As a whole, this phemonomen is likely to bring jobs back and create a stronger sense of community, at the cost of many of the pleasures and luxuries we enjoy today. While the net benefit of this is debatable, it does solve many issues causing depression today.

3. Demographic shifts. This is a bit blunt, but the populations of single young men that are depressed today will eventually die off. As the world’s population falls to some lower, sustainable number (I’d bet 500 million to a billion), the pressures of overpopulation and lack of romantic success many suffer today will be solved. Sure, the lonely men of today might be out of luck, but the future seems less harsh for those born then.

Which of itself is a paradoxical form of hardship. Anomie.
The individualistic mandate of self-direction necessarily devolves into directionlessness. It may have worked for boomers, because the post-war economies were refreshed and growing rapidly, but now it's not the case. Propaganda about how good the economy has been is hollow. Nobody wants or needs another million soulless service jobs that degrade and grind down the human spirit and snuff out its spark. Meaning is participatory, communal. >1.
There is nothing to place one's faith in any more beyond niche and highly aestheticised ideologies and fad movements, and more importantly there is no homogenous group which will collectively improve it's e.g. morale, standards of behaviour by adopting some kind of religious ideology. Every western nation is fractured into jaded post-ideology individuals and highly religious collectives, neither of which has much to do with the other. The former are fading away while the latter are pretty much taking over, demographically speaking. LARPing as a pagan online means nothing in material terms. Western societies are too fractured and consist of too many rival ethnic groups for any collective force to emerge.

>2.
If this is going to take place, it must take place within the next ten years or so because after that democracy will become irrelevant to the average "native" person in a western country who hopes that their fellow natives will all vote for some party or policy which will protect their group from being out-breeded and replaced. In mainstream economic and political circles, the rapidly declining fertility rate in western countries will lead to something like a bidding war in about 80 years time, when countries like the UK and France will outbid one another in an effort tempt Nigerians and so on to migrate to their country because the fertility rate will have led to a declining population, which is of course hostile to economic progress and the GDP etc.

>3.
500 million to a billion isn't imaginable for another few generations. The population is still rising globally and is expected to peak in about 2100.

It's a difficult question because second and third generation immigrants are less likely to be as religious as the first wave, however with Islam I see no reason that they will become significantly less religious over the generations since the communities ethnically tend to keep to themselves and their lack of economic success means they aren't prey to the kind of atomisation which is encouraged by materialistic success etc. So yes, society will probably become more religious percentage-wise as muslims breed at a faster rate than native whites, who aren't breeding at all. But it won't be any kind of novel spiritual awakening imo, just the arrival of a virile religious ideology and its rather uneducated adherents into a land stripped of anything like a binding ideology, its population isolated, at war with itself (e.g., hostility towards those of a different class, age, etc) and largely content with a culture of comfort and leisure.
