Bible says that as long as you walk with God you don't need to obey the old Jewish laws. This is the reason Christians are allowed to eat pork and so on. We could extrapolate this to include, for instance, homosexuality, there is literally no scriptural reason not to.

Isaiah by a mile. The structure and language is incomparable to any other OT book other than perhaps Job and the Psalms for sheer beauty in writing. I was also fond of Numbers and the Kings books for their historical context. And of course Ecclesiastes is more than worth the price of admission.

I’m reading it in KJV for its beautiful translation, and how modern translations just seem to fall flat in terms of good writing and grammar. Whenever I come across a difficult verse, I just look up an alternate translation and then move on, but this only happens occasionally.

If you want an easier translation, NLT is supposed to be the most contemporary.

Interesting. Not the first time I've heard people gush about Isaiah. What specifically struck you about him? Honestly, of the three major prophets I found Isaiah to be the most forgettable.

Perhaps it's partially down to translation. I've only read the prophets in NRSV and JPS85 so maybe it's that Isaiah is particularly outstanding in KJV. I also know that Christians have a thing for him because they like Immanuel and the suffering servant stuff.

It was more the totality of Isaiah as a whole. It felt like more than a sum of its parts. On the surface, I can see why some people would t appreciate it as much. Most of it is condemning Israel’s enemies and telling Israel to repent, which is largely what most of the OT is about already. Like I said, it was largely the structure and language used in KJV. I can’t talk about other translation since I only read it in KJV, but I came out of Isaiah stunned, something that no other book did for me in the OT. None of the other books seem as hopeful for the future, at least. Most of the OT is doom a don gloom, so it felt good to read a book that says things will be okay in the end.
