ah yes, we should only post contrarian opinions

I don't know if most of the authors you mentioned count as contemporary desu.
If you like McCarthy you'd enjoy Fernanda Melchor, a follower of his from Mexico and also a contemporary author. She's part of this group of authors who apparently write about similar topics and I suppose might be inspired by McCarthy too, but the others give me the impression to be mostly shit.

I think Jonathan Franzen might be among the contemporary authors I hate. Has anyone read "The Corrections"? It may be one the most dishonest, self-indulgent pieces of literature I've read in recent memory. And this fuckin guy has the audacity to claim his book is too good for the Oprah Book Club. Ironically, I think that "The Corrections" is the EXACT kind of book that would be lauded by the Oprah Book Club.

Have you actually read them or do you just shitpost on /lit/ without ever picking up a book?
Alternatively, have you ever read a writer who was not a /lit/ meme?

I have!

I always make the mistake of putting too much faith in /lit/. I thought surely, only a mentally deficient man can believe those mutts are good writers, not to mention the best. Wallace, for christ's sake... He isn't just a bad writer, he is outright awful. Do you just now know better? Have you never read anything by, say, Pamuk, or Kadare? Maybe Handke at least?

Here's an actual list btw:
1. Peter Nadas
2. Ismail Kadare
3. Orhan Pamuk
4. Gerald Murnane
5. Anne Carson
6. Yu Hua
These 6 are I think the very best, not sure who would be the 7th, but there's a big power gap there. Maybe Krazzy or Fosse.
