Don't be afraid to skip past Tolstoy's musings on his theory of history. They are interspersed throughout the book with the biggest section right at the end (the last 50 pages).

Other than that, enjoy. I thought it was fantastic.

I never said he SHOULD skip it, but if he feels like it's too much of a slog to skip it. It doesn't detract, or really add, anything to the plot.

you mean the chapter where Nikolai's regiment is resting at some inn and they force the doctors fiancee to stir sugar into their tea with her finger as she blushes to the point of tears multiple times

It was water from a samovar so yes

"Too hot!" she replied, blushing with pleasure."

I've often wondered how those felt being around an army. You're outnumbered 5000-1, and you know all the men want to fuck your brains out.

Do women like that? or do they feel intimidated?

A good read, in large part because it provides the perfect juxtaposition with Hadji Murad. I find it quite incredible to see the development in Tolstoy to the point that he is able to surpass his achievements in War and Peace in a far, far more compact narrative.

In War & Peace it is one of the segmented chapters - a digression on human knowledge in history.
In Anna Karenina it is part of Levin's farming simulator addiction.
Tolstoy liked bees, as all great minds have and will.
