This board hasn't really changed in the last few years. Half the threads up at any given time are political posts using the "book recommendation" loophole to masquerade as a relevant post. Jannies can remove posts all day, but the problem is there being a lot of people visiting this board who aren't at all interested in actually discussing literature. The best thing you can do to combat this is to actively participate in relevant discussion so that actual /lit/ threads stay bumped and active

The thing is, it becomes repetitive after a while. It's the same as on /mu/ and /tv/, if you only discuss certain albums or movies people who use the board regularly see the same threads pop up over and over again. Nothing new or insightful gets said. With /tv/ and /mu/ you constantly have new things happening but with /lit/ things happen more sporadically due to the nature of the medium. I think lit has the same problem as /tv/ and /v/ in a way that it's a hobby that's very common and easy to access (everyone who was born in a religious family or went to school has enough to start a thread) so it attracts normies who only know of 4chan as "the right wing place" and boom here we are with nonstop /pol/ threads and very sparse book discussion.
It's a real shame because it's my go to place for book reccomendations, since every other site is too pretentious and reddit is to casual, but now a lot of discussion is the same you'd see on reddit.
It has been happening slowly to the entire website over last 4 years or so.

It's opposite and the reason /lit/ is so shit. Reading a book takes much more effort than watching a movie or playing a game so the shitposts often aren't even related to literature.
