Just ignore that crap seriously OP. The jannies here are corrupt, they create spam threads, they also meddle in our affairs. Horia Belcea is a janny who ultimately mass banned those who criticized him and produced evidence that the thread deletions were his doing. There was a recent thread where the OP shittalked Plato and responded like a bitch to people for 'appeal to authority' and 'appeal to consensus,' if you tried saging said thread it wouldn't sage. He was called out on it because it sounded like Horia Belcea, and immediately began defending Horia Belcea. The Belcea spam also suggests that Guenon spam was produced by a janny, hence why that shit never was deleted despite its insane proliferation at the worst of it (just like Belcea spam). There's also evidence Butterfly is a janny collected last December. This board is FUCKED but some frogposter making a spam thread is the last reason to be mad. Seriously. These threads are worse than what they're complaining about. You weren't there to see worse things.

This board hasn't really changed in the last few years. Half the threads up at any given time are political posts using the "book recommendation" loophole to masquerade as a relevant post. Jannies can remove posts all day, but the problem is there being a lot of people visiting this board who aren't at all interested in actually discussing literature. The best thing you can do to combat this is to actively participate in relevant discussion so that actual /lit/ threads stay bumped and active

Careful what you wish for or this place will end up like /his/ where people get banned for actually discussing history without political context.

>Korean comfort women thread
>Mention how most of the comfort women were sold into it by their families and that this was common practice before Korea was annexed by Japan
>3 day ban for off-topic
>Make a thread to discuss the various genocides committed by the Vietnamese
>3 day ban for racism outside of /b/
etc.

At least with loosely moderated shitholes you can just hide the offending threads and posts. Over moderated shitholes with jannitors who don't know what the fuck they're doing shut out any and all discussion period.
Rather than being a garbage field you have to clean to see the decent discussion, it becomes a minefield where you blindly wander forward until you eventually step on a mine you couldn't have known was there and spend three days getting sown back together. I ended up getting perma-banned from /his/ a year ago because I amassed 67+ bans for bullshit like the greentext overtime. I don't even want to ban evade because I know I'll just be treading that stressful fucking minefield waiting to get banned again by some invalid who can't tell the difference between history and politics.

I don't consider myself to be very smart, or at least I consider myself to be kind of an autist who doesn't appreciate nuance. But even to me, it's clear as day what threads actually are /lit/ related and what threads are off-topic bait meant to shitpost and drag down the board's quality. Even some more political threads can feel very /lit/-related, because they are interested in ideas and the books that elucidate those ideas. They seem very different from the low-effort shitposting that goes on a lot on this board. And if I, an autist, can see this, why can't the mods?

I've been on 4chan in general since 2008. I'm one of the "original" newfags, according to the site's timelines. But you are clearly a true, for real newfag, somebody who probably came here in 2016 or later. You are probably from Reddit and posted on their Trump subreddit until it finally got nuked. That or you are from Discord and you have a Twitter account and you are some disgusting orbiter of Red Scare of Chapo Trap House or something like that.

This. The sticky used be enforced by the board. It got gay when it shifted to the Dante illustration version. It used just have the wiki and bookz and for a while a ribbon saying READ A FUCKING BOOK. If people asked for a rec: read wiki in sticky. If people ask for vague subject: read wiki in sticky. If people ask for how to books: sticky. If people post repeat thread: lrn2catalog. If people ask about something not in sticky or catalog: check the archives. All of them. If they say checked wiki and archives and books: I am not here to Google. If they ask entry level but specific questions they could solve by reading the book: assume it's a homework request and tell them >>>/hm/ is a homework board. If they read good book you also read and have cool ideas about it: then you can talk about your headfarts with your bookbro.
The board never needed mods, and mods and jannies will never be well read. Anon just needs to have standards for anonself.

>> No.16008314

>>16008286
The thing is, it becomes repetitive after a while. It's the same as on /mu/ and /tv/, if you only discuss certain albums or movies people who use the board regularly see the same threads pop up over and over again. Nothing new or insightful gets said. With /tv/ and /mu/ you constantly have new things happening but with /lit/ things happen more sporadically due to the nature of the medium. Also we tend to focus on classics, so the same book and author get popped up over and over. Shitposting keeps this board alive.

There're worst threads to complain about, at least this one cites a person of reference. Most people just say an opinion with remembering this place is called "/lit/" because it stands for literature

Don't linger on the past boomer, this board is zoomer teritorry now. No but seriously these are just growing pains, and you can't really stop it. There are more obscure imageboards with /lit/ equivalents but 4chan is an active place and a lot of anons from all over the board have dipped their toes into reading and that also means they end up coming here.

Did you forget OP admitted he loves shitposting more than literature and does this a lot, or are you just a retard who can't follow a quote chain or read a thread before posting? Or maybe you're still the retarded OP who doesn't understand what a literature board is for.
>this board is zoomer teritorry now. No but seriously these are just growing pains, and you can't really stop it.
I've illustrated how to stop it. Do you not understand off topic and why it is a problem, often called cancer? Is that your problem with seeing the cancer, retard?

I'm here (and on /his/) to avoid political discussions, I'm here to find some decent book suggestions and guides for how to into philosophy. Same for /his/, though moreso for their /christian/ threads. Sadly they're almost entirely shitshows.
I explicitly come here and avoid /pol/ because I don't want to talk about politics, I don't even want to think about them when I'm here, if possible

They're not a blacklist, they're a natural language of the weak and effeminate. All those terms have something very in common, passive aggression and diminutive language as to not possibly assert any challenge to other community members. Their entire lexicon consists of the literary version of wearing bubblewrap, and they carefully tread as to not disturb the peace, else they be excommunicated from the only social group they have. 4Chan's anonymity is its sole guardian preventing it from devolving into that and even then you can find the expats from reddit being so indoctrinated as to use the same terminology here, not aware they won't be banned for saying nigger or faggot freely, and still self censoring.

I think lit has the same problem as /tv/ and /v/ in a way that it's a hobby that's very common and easy to access (everyone who was born in a religious family or went to school has enough to start a thread) so it attracts normies who only know of 4chan as "the right wing place" and boom here we are with nonstop /pol/ threads and very sparse book discussion.
It's a real shame because it's my go to place for book reccomendations, since every other site is too pretentious and reddit is to casual, but now a lot of discussion is the same you'd see on reddit.
It has been happening slowly to the entire website over last 4 years or so.

>I think lit has the same problem as /tv/ and /v/ in a way that it's a hobby that's very common and easy to access
It's opposite and the reason /lit/ is so shit. Reading a book takes much more effort than watching a movie or playing a game so the shitposts often aren't even related to literature.
