In high school, we discussed ancient philosophy for some time, and when Plato's political ideas and Aristotle's slavery views came up, everything quickly descended into bitching about fascism and slavery. Half the class was unable to get this out of their head and every discussion afterwards was viewed through the lens of them being fascists/slavery apologists. This also ended up happening in the literature class whenever an older writer had any racist or antisemitic views.
