15974274 No.15974274 [Reply] [Original]

This board has gone to fucking shit over the last 6 months. It was never perfect but you could actually find decent discussion here can't say that any more. There too many tourists, zoomers and newfags stinking up the place. At this rate everybody that actually reads will fuck off. I propose we fix things by using /ic/s model. It is by far the most ordered board on this website. We should have a beginner general where we can tell retards to go before they stink up the place asking on "how to read better or where to start" the Buddhists and shankaras already create their own generals good for them. We need a way to control the poltards they can make their own fascist philosophy general. Instead of 5 Nietzsche threads a day just make a fuxking general. Itll promote better discussion and order things a bit.

Honestly /sffg/ used to be the worst threads on /lit/ and now they're the best, simply because that's the only place people actually still talk about literature. Also, there needs to be a crackdown on threads that are just thinly veiled discussion threads of other topics, be they women, politics, economics, etc. The board should be about literature, not "What are some books to redpill me on women?" that will just devolve within 10 posts into a shitfest, and most decidedly not literature-related.

>> No.15974315

no let's talk about the literary merit of this ps2 game i played when i was 15.

>> No.15974320

Let us start by making a list of all the recurring bullshit threads that don't promote discussion that pop up everyday and convert them into generals to contain the faggotry.
/pol/tards are a huge issue we need a general for them
Newcomers asking for help is an issue
Too many fucking depression waah I'm sad I want to kill myself recommend a book threads. Depressing or suicidal literature/absurdism could gave a general

There's too many fucking religion threads. I say this as somebody who LIKES discussion religion on /lit/, there's way too many of them. It's gotten out of hand, more of them need to be deleted.

Also can we ban the fucking "shower thoughts" threads? The ones where it's obvious some fucking idiot was smoking weed or sitting in the shower, and he got some "brilliant thought" that he just HAD to share with all of us?

The short story general was last time anyone made an effort to move lit in the right direction but it was quickly discontinued because lit is currently filled with college students taking shitposting breaks between their study sessions.

>> No.15974438

What /lit/ desperately needs (other than decent moderation, which will never happen) is for autistic retards to step up and make their containment generals. It's a real pity that a majority of threads follows a shitpost template where the average post length is genuinely not even half a sentence. It doesn't exactly motivate you to sincerely interact with people or effortpost since all you'll get for it is mockery, one-liners, and basedjaks. The quality of communication on 4chan genuinely has never been as bad as it currently is and it's pure irony when shitposters tell others to go back. Where? 4chan is barely better than reddit at this point.

>> No.15974773

fpbp

There are never five Nietzche threads just because five people who didn't use the search function all wanted to talk about Nietzche. It is because there is one legitimate thread, one guy who got angry in an argument there and made his next post a thread of its own, and then three people who are not reading any of it, simply posting Nietzche quotes alongside the /pol/ subjects they are far more interested in discussing but on a literature board to feel smart/turf.

Do not recommend generals simply for how bad other options seem. Sort the same people in a different way, and they will be the same people. Generals will improve little. The difference between us an /ic/ is that writing attracts a different kind of pretentious poser, and that's all. We have generals like /crit/ in which people who find crit disagree with will lash out and fill the thread with deliberately bad work and thinly veiled references to other people. It is akin to dressing up as Bigfoot to prove his existence to others. It is not just shiggy diggy but scooby doo; a knowing fabrication of evidence. The only solution is personal vigilance. I have seen many of their chatrooms. It is always a room created under the pretext of avoiding cringe, only for everyone to instead repost their favorite cringe from the very /crit/ threads they claim to be avoiding. Simply be vigilant and allow them to filter out into the privacy they so desire.

Yeah, White Fragility gets it’s daily thread, but it’s a containment thread mostly and when theres a hugely popular bestseller a literature board needs to allow a certain amount of discussion. Even if you would prefer the real world not crowd out the blogposts in whatever general you’re advocating for.

there's a difference between having a genuine political discussion related to ideas in literature and the archetypal "books about young men who have relationships with big-breasted milky mommies?" or "books about how races with lower IQs are bad for society?"

notice how the first has the least replies and the third the most.

/pol/ is nothing like pre-2010 4chan. Most of /b/ back in the day was hardcore libertarian, /pol/ is a bunch of unironic fascists. Not the same thing at all.

Yeah I’m sure the exact shit that ruined /sp/ and other boards won’t apply at all here.
You zoomers should go to /b/ or someplace and ask about /sp/ and how strict moderation killed one of the most active boards inside a week

I’m not whining about /pol/ but I will acknowledge that on /b/ circa like 2011 most of the racial stuff was just lighthearted and not nearly as serious

At the very least, this thread has inspired me to do more bumping. I'm making it a goal of mine, from here on out, to search the bottom of the catalog for real literature threads and bump them all, multiple times a day. I'm going to do my part.

the board is to blame to be honest.
The third (along with the suburbs thread) is tolerable for me because it sparks discussion but not because it's a twitter screenshot.
Every place needs an offtopic post once in a while because ... people just have opinions and will find a way to express them

>> No.15974914

Fuck this shit this place is tucked. I'll come here once every week or so but limit my time here. I'm going to go read fuck all of you. When I come back I'm going to make an effort thread about what I read and hopefully retarfs don't stink it up

>implying libertarians don't get fed up
Literally every libertarian from pre 2010 that wasn't a boomer is some sort of hardcore authoritarian/monarchist type because they realized it was really fucking gay to get trod on while bitching out "don't tread on me".

Tbh that third one is a legitimate issue and there’s several books I could recommend on the topic. It’s definetely not the racebait shit I assumed it would be when I clicked the link.
I think it’s actually a good example of how janny on a haretrigger could stifle good discussion.

>> No.15974959

The only threads on this board should be organized group readings/discussions on a specific book which last for a week or two weeks. Any other thread irrelevant to reading/discussing literature gets culled.

kill yourself
anime posts are so formulaic.
one or two replies:
>Is X...?, if so, then why is Y...?
you niggers post for the sake of posting, if you could post more than 5 threads you will do it and you will fill the board with google questions

it's a psychological trait. they can't even post without an anime picture.
Fuck those niggers

>> No.15975039

i think the biggest problem is that there are but a handful of 2010-2012 posters left, and they’ve been replaced with poltards and frogtwitter orbiters who simply have nothing of interest to say; to them ”reading books” is just a trait you put in your social media profile. oh wow dude you read dosto junger hamsun and mishima, based

as gay as it seemed then lit was infinitely more interesting around peak alt lit and tao lin. there just seemed to be more possibilities with the internet. probably one of those moments in time where something appeared for a brief moment before the world closed its ranks once again

How about you start contributing to threads. I've made countless threads about actual literature but they never get more than 6 replies
