Speculation is not the same thing as mere speculation. There is evidence for why they would suspect that and it has to do with common Jewish names in Spain, one of which his mother had. Nothing very interesting I'm afraid. I was at a party with guys from my fraternity and the cops rolled the party for a noise violation. We sort of laughed it off, said we'd be quiet, and turned the music down a bit. A little while later when I left to walk home the cops, who were waiting outside, arrested me for disorderly conduct with alcohol. I complied, went to jail for the night, and spent the night shooting the shit with other guys in jail, who were all pretty cool. I was released without bail the following day, and the district attorney's office declined to press any criminal charges in my case. Wasn't altogether terrible but my ego was slightly bruised I guess.
