You're not (entirely) wrong, however, what you and a lot of anons don't realise is that Jazz (especially things like modal jazz) basically takes all music theory concepts and forces them together. Sometimes it sounds cool, sometimes it doesn't. It's a lot more in depth on how key changes can occur, what harmonies work, how to form harmonies, and how far you can stretch melodies. Once you understand Jazz, you've basically unlocked all music theory.

Bach still wrote better music than Jazz artists, but you can reverse engineer Jazz to get baroque if you want.

It can do it, it only gives a crash corse on the rudiments like reading music and the like, but that is not too hard to do. Problem with theory without instrument is everything is very abstract unless you have a naturally great ear, even then, you will save yourself a great deal of complication if you get a cheap use electric keyboard to work along with it, or perhaps a melodeian. You do not really need any skill, but you will devlop some without even trying, it is really just to connect the idea to the sound.

That's a tough question, because it depends entirely on taste. I remember I got into Miles Davis because of my love of Bach. I remember reading that Miles used to practice Bach at faster and faster speeds (whether this is true I don't know), and I also always liked the trumpet (which is why I learnt it at age 10). As I learnt more music theory, I began to appreciate Jazz a lot more, and enjoy a lot of jazz music that I previously didn't find that appealing or "entry level".

Honestly, a lot of Jazz music could be considered "entry level", Ryo Fukui comes to mind as being an incredibly talented pianist who made likeable music. John Coltrane's "Giant steps" on the other hand would not be approachable, and kind of comes off as 'soulless wankery' (personally I don't think it's that great as something to listen to, it's more a demonstrative piece of what you can do with music - when you understand what it does, you realise what a feat it is for it not to sound as bad as you think it would).

I would recommend Chopin, Satie, and Debussy, they're classical, but they /feel/ like a style of classical that is reaching towards the chaos of jazz while still maintaining classical order. It really just depends on taste, and you shouldn't force yourself to listen to continue listening to something you don't like. It's kind of like reading, listen to a broad melange of genres, and eventually you'll find stuff you like, and that will link to other stuff you like, and you'll begin to find works of all genres that you can appreciate.

Again it's up to taste. Stuff like Take 5 is probably pleasant to most people. Charles Mingus, idk, I like stuff like Bird Calls, but do other people? The horns are a bit chaotic, I can't think of things of his that would neither be too boring or too complex. The truth is I don't listen to much Jazz anymore, it all sounds the same after a bit. Actually all music sounds the same, I don't listen to much music anymore.
