I think that just as the Pavlovian relationship between the rocket's sound and its impact, or between the rockets' impact and Slothrop, and how cause and effect become muddled by the acceleration of technology and industrialism, are meant to imply that the entire WWII theater is a factory mass-producing a new type of human being, which cannot distinguish itself from the tools that it uses in its daily life, much as Imimoplex G is meant to completely engulf a person. Slothrop, who was raised to respond to exposure to Imimoplex G, is the technologically-dependent consumer of the post-industrial capitalist society, whose most basic pleasures are completely dependent on high tech manufacturing processes. Slothrop's adventures in the Zone are about him breaking his addiction to industrialized society and reconnecting with humanity's true nature.
