I don't see anything wrong with it. The term ἁμαρτία, which is translated as "sin," originally came from a verb meaning when an archer aimed at a target and missed, ie "missed the mark". Also, there's absolutely nothing wrong with translating nouns that have grammatical genders with those genders.

I highly recommend you read the essay "The Task of the Translator" by Walter Benjamin. Here, I'll even supply a link to a pdf:
http://www.totuusradio.fi/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Benjamin-The-Task-of-the-Translator.pdf

Good translation, for Benjamin (and I am apt to agree), is not a literal word-for-word translation. Ideas that are expressed in literature, especially confessional/devotional literature like Teresa & St. John of the Cross, should be expressed through the spirit of the language rather than the law of the words used. Teresa was a woman who emphasized Yeshua's grace, love, and compassion, so the employment of softer, contemporary language does capture the spirit of her message. If you're inclined to disagree, I'm willing to hear you out.

>"Pecado" doesn't mean "missed the mark"
The gospels weren't written in Spanish, though. She's drawing on a translation of a translation (Greek > Latin > Spanish) herself. Again, the spirit of the message and its context within the tradition of Christianity matters more than the literal words used.

That sounds more like an adaptation than a translation. It's irresponsible to call that a translation. At least Pound had the decency to call his book "Hommage to Sextus Propertius", but not everyone has this decency.

And yes, Benjamin's view has been expressed by countless translators in the past. Maybe you don't know it, but that's OK.

Well I'm assuming that this is a preface to the translation, explaining the chosen actions. So the reader will go into the text actually knowing these changes (ie, if a reader chooses he can read "Holy Trinity" whenever he reads "three divine Persons").
