In Nicomachean ethics Aristotle says
>For without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods; even rich men and those in possession of office and of dominating power are thought to need friends most of all; for what is the use of such prosperity without the opportunity of beneficence, which is exercised chiefly and in its most laudable form towards friends? Or how can prosperity be guarded and preserved without friends? The greater it is, the more it exposed is it to risk. And in poverty and in other misfortunes men think friends are the only refuge.
Do you agree with Aristotle? Is a solitary existence not worth living?

It’s a poor existence. You all suffer from the atomization of capitalism.

It depends.
Aristotle didn't hangout with slaves nor females. He wrote for his students: principes and philosophers.
Mass culture and authoritarian politics have changed completely our bias in respect to ancient thought.
As an autist, solitary existence is the only existence i know. I have no friends beside my family and my partner but without them i would be lost.
Now one must not confuse rejection of society with the rejection of particular circles. The later is inevitable, the former is not.

The interesting thing about human history prior to the advent of the internet-enabled smartphone is that there was never an equivalent in all that time. Aristotle was born into an era when the absolute worst that humanity has to offer was not crammed into his field of vision every waking second of his life. There is no reason for a human being living in the modern era to reach out to his fellow man for companionship because he is acutely aware of how miserable his fellow man is in every regard.

One point: Anarcho-syndicalism In Spain failed because they only seized the workplace (Bookchin says it’s because they refused power in Madrid) as the Marxian maxim goes. But they neglected “seizing” their neighborhoods, really converting the whole city and the countryside to the cause. True the Stalinists betrayed them and caused severe damage, but if they had double their numbers the reds and the Francoists would have been swatted.
It’s a good quick read with pragmatic advice. The enemy is very well armed. The only way to defeat it is with united numbers. The strategy is sound. Give the people what they need and want.

As much as I dislike Dave Chappelle, in one of hi specials he says "I got some good advice from a friend. He said 'get a dog,' because the dog will love you all the time and she's not going to."
I'm considering it.

Aristotle’s writing really does not hold up to any level of scrutiny. The average man today is living a much more isolated and solitary lifestyle than any man that cane before him. Yet his happiness and comfort is at an all time high. There is an infinite amount of things one can do without friends. Learn any skill, pursue any hobby, Engage with the finest art known to man. Play vidya all day. I bet if you handed Aristotle some top of the line video games he’d reconsider his shitty opinion.
