Kind of ironic that he of all people ran himself into the ground and into the grave, working and tiring himself to death in a spiral of hedonism. Running hither and thither trying to fix problems he sowed himself due to following his own philosophy.

Yeah, alcohol is unambiguously a net negative. Easy on the sauce there, fellas.

Alcohol's what killed him, but it was far from his only vice. All that smoking couldn't have been good for his heart.

As far as I understand it, his philosophy was about taking down the psychological strain of a modern man. "Don't try to become a better version of yourself because you simply can't do it", "there is absolutely no need to worry about anything in the world unless you want to" and so on. In other words, you can be an alcoholic if you are conscious and responsible about it. He was a drunk but never blamed it on anybody or anything like genes or whatnot. He died a drunk but did so peacefully. And that is the dictionary definition of being unironically based.

i mean if he treated people well and wasn't a materialist then that's still okay.
we all have our vices.

dunno how people can drink when they can just smoke a joint in it's place.

don't know what OP is on about, I doubt Watts resorted to drinking and smoking to remedy 'his own philosophy'.

being so stringently healthy to the point of it being a complete chore to exist to serve only a purpose of becoming extremely old enough to say you 'made it' to some ungodly age is a waste of life.
It is better to partake in a personal life of enjoyment and not make it to some presupposed pass mark of age than it is to be a boring old withered cunt whos shitting his pants at 90 as he says to himself "AT LEAST I WAS SO PURE!"
