This is one of my favorites. I used to be a sailor, and it only makes you world weary. You may have memories of sampling exotic women and drinking yourself into a stupor, but you'll never have anything permanent. The idea is more enticing than the reality.

Seen in the right way this is actually quite insightful though. People remember for the Odyssey for Odysseus' travels (which only take up 4 of the Odyssey's 24 books), and frame the idea of his nostos/return around that. But, his return and restoration of order (the disorder being expressed through the suitors) in Ithaca is actually central to the Epic. Hence the epic ending with the council where Athena orders peace between Odysseus and the suitors' relatives, and not merely when he returns to Ithaca.

Yes, but you have to realize why Dune was amazing was because it was the first book to actually use the Hero's journey. Hell even starwars is based off of it because of the ingenuity of the concept.
Just an amazing writer, details are beautiful and just imagining the thought power to come up with that kind of cycle is beautiful to imagine.
