I would greatly appreciate some horror recommendations for someone trying to get into reading.

I literally just sold HoL on ebay because I couldn't get into it.

HoL is fun except for when it isn't. There's some good bits of horror in it but it's too wacky to really be a horror novel. I know he gets shit on a lot but Stephen King is good if you stick to stuff from the 80's and back. Salem's Lot is a favorite of mine, and Skeleton Crew is a good collection of short stories. HPL is good too, and you can get his collected works in one volume for cheap. Obviously I'm not much of a horror reader but those are my .02, I'll lurk the thread for recs too.

House of Leaves is one of the least reddit books ever written.

I really appreciate it. I can't do Stephen King though. I got 54% into Pet Sematary and just couldn't handle another minute. It feels like a Slice of Life between the family. I might try The Shining, because it is one of my favorite movies and I'm genuinely curious how the book and the movie differentiate.

The picture in OP make me want to try reading by candlelight. Any Anons try this?

Haven't seen the movie but I can tell you that I generally enjoyed The Shining. It is the only horror book I've read so I can't say how it compares to others.

Read The Willows by Blackwood

It's good, but muh alcoholism is the real bad guy. Danny's internal dialogues really do add a childlike sense of dread and confusion to the mix.

Haven't read but I've written letters and notes by candlelight. Super comfy and taps into your head more I think def recommend.

King Diamond writes his lyrics by candle light to get into character. His albums tell horror stories through music. Abigail and Them are pretty interesting if you like metal/hard rock.
