I loved the books as a kid and they introduced me to a life-long habit of reading. Her books arguably bolstered my academic potential by increasing my vocabulary as a 9 year old. Reading them as an adult is a fun trip down memory lane, and I'll be sure to read them to my kids.

Gender dysphoria follows the pathology of a neurodevelopmental disorder more than it does a psychological or psychiatric illness, which is why it doesn't respond to DBT etc.

The reason there's a significant overlap with autism is probably because the two share some, but not all, neurodevelopmental features

I'm a tranny with a right occipital lobe injury since birth and I've always assumed the two were linked since I also have no sense of kinaesthesia and things like that and it took me til like 16 to develop any theory of mind capability despite being decently intelligent in other areas.

A lot of trans people don't care about overwrought semantics but in practice most normies don't grasp the concept of how they ordinarily treat trans people differently to others so "trans women are women" is, among other things, a useful linguistic approximation to clue people into how to treat us i.e. not saying "Why don't you just crossdress like Eddie Izzard instead of getting your dick chopped off?" every 30 seconds.

Gender dysphoria feels like 3 things, at once:
1. The usual sinking feeling of falling into a black hole of depression
2. A feeling of physical disgust, like falling in mud on a hot day and not being able to wash until you get home miles away
3. An uncomfortable dissociative feeling like when you lose a tooth and the gap feels all large and distorted when you probe it with your tongue
All of this at once, and most importantly, it is only triggered by (and consistently triggered by) being aware of one's gendered physical and social characteristics. That last part is a big part of what sets it apart diagnostically from things like more general body dysmorphia etc. Oh, and the feeling is consistently and linearly lessened when those gendered characteristics are changed e.g. by hormones. That's why it's the preferred treatment by doctors, over a chemical lobotomy. Not "cultural marxist" ideology. Empirical medical evidence. Sure there's some nutters but there's people on this board who read The Fountainhead unironically too.

Like I said, those feelings occur simultaneously when they happen. Which they still do some of the time, I'm not ugly but I'm a long way off passing. The gender dysphoria is still present but it's far less severe and less constant, so I consider that a moderate success. The aim of transitioning isn't simply "to be a real woman" or anything that nebulous, it's to treat the symptoms of gender dysphoria. I'm 26 now and I was 14 when these feelings first started. The first round of puberty wasn't so bad, just change, but once my bone structure started becoming more masculine it got bad, quick. Came out at 20 after trying and failing to kms and going full absurdist instead.
