literally white guilt: the book; I enjoyed the historical summaries of these books but the overall take and thesis of the book that there is no responsability on the people of 3rd world countries for why they git there and that It's 100% the fault of the white male ( and I agree in my opinion it has some sort of part but not the sole fucking reason) It's laughable at best. but I also guess that being the way the current socio political system is, for an academic to present everything else then the liberal views written above It's equivalent to career suicide

the sad thing is, the 3rd world nations that didnt rebel against british, rule but celebrated the institutions and infrastructure given to them, which those nations then picked up from and carried on building, are now some of the wealthiest per capita in the world.

the white-bad narrative does only harm to thirdworld nations.

when virtue signallers get what they want with thier narratives, and these 3rd world nations end up being raped by the chinese, with no western values to protect themselves with. its going to be a bloodbath there.

no it isn't. it puts blame on european institutions that lead to poverty like the spanish ones in central and south america while praising those that lead to prosperity like the ones in england. if you think the book was white guilt then you were trying to interpret the book that way.

Read this before I started my college course in International Relations, the book is really good, it provides an interesting interpretation on the growth of some countries compared to other and why. Successful countries were basically build on inclusive rather than exclusive economies. In the US everybody and anyone could get rich because the system (ownership rights) provided that opportunity. Other countries remained poor because those with power (and acces to raw materials) preferred a state of inequality.

So far as I know it didn't provide anything meaningful insights on communist China. Besides, it is still an oversimplification, especially on history.

In the pic you'll find a large amount of essays you'll probably have to read. Most of these essays have been written in the last 100 years. International Relations ('IR') is actually a new academic field, you shouldn't compare it to international relations.

Other important and influential thinkers are Hobbes, Rousseau, Max Weber and maybe Marx. Some good memes to check out are Plato's Republic and The Prince by Machiavelli.
