Young people in the west have abandoned religion in record numbers, but will Christianity return some day? Perhaps soon?

As the world spirals deeper into darkness and values disintegrate around us, more and more people will start to crave meaning, possibly looking to religion. But will Christianity 'return'? Make a comeback? Probably not. The institutions are old and tired and out of touch.

It's dead.
You know that it's dead because churches, both protestant and catholic, make a big fuss about being progressive. That means that they fully lost their constitutive role in the customs of society, and remain only as an afterthought. Christianity lost all the potency it once had, that is, it died, and left a shadow of itself.
I do not consider this state of affairs particularly tragic. I am just horrified at how easily nihilism seeped through every pore of society. Religion had to die, and this was right, but the fools have abandoned all desire for truth.

Here's my prediction for millennials (and maybe zoomers if they don't go full retard)
1. Forced to go to church by parents; hate it and don't see the point
2. Rebel as teenagers; reject the idea of God completely; become reddit-tier atheists
3 .Go to college; try to find something to believe in "I'm not religious but I'm spiritual bro"
4. Accept the spiritual as valuable, experiment with fake religions like Wicca but then are exposed to ancient mysticism
5. Mysticism to Qabalah
6. End up researching Christianity all over again
7. Finally arrive back at the beginning: Jesus Christ is the Lord God
8. cycle repeats with their children

I am Christian (not the trad larpy kind so common on /lit/), age 22. I don't think Christianity will make a comeback in a sincere form. Even most modern Christians are shallow. But this is prophesied. I hope Christ will come back soon.

I don't think so. Christ talks about this. Separating out the chaff; many are invited, few are chosen; narrow is the way that leads to life and few will find it; etc. I think it's tragic. Honestly sometimes I just cry thinking about all the people who reject Christ. Or the people who acknowledge Christ but don't follow him. It's all so sad. Not that I'm a super great Christian myself, God knows I've washed my hands of sin too many times. But this makes me even more sympathetic with the lost sheep.

Maybe not christianity but there probably will be a religious/spiritual revival of some sort.
It's becoming pretty fucking obvious that the currently popular attitude towards life is not the way to go.

Maybe in America your parents forced you to go to church but in Australia and most of Europe none of our parents went to church. Christianity is something we never had any experience of. Catholicism and orthodoxy are as foreign to us as Islam.

In Europe? No, see >>15519742. It was dead already.
Catholicism is burying itself with Francis I, there's no point in shilling the progressive values as the world around us already shill, the church gain nothing by pleasing the media and progressives that don't even go to church anyway. Nobody is going to convert to catholicism because it's slightly progressive, specially since they did nothing to end the pedophile scandals. In South America catholicism is stronger, but it's also declining fast, people can find the same things in the evangelical churches, but in a more markeatable way, almost a merchandize itself, the same goes for the catholic parts of Africa, as the evangelic churches spread there too. And Evangelicism barelly counts as christianity, it's a profitable parody of christianity just like the western budhism is just a merchandize based on real budhism.

The only way christianity makes a comeback is if the church cut the bullshit and actually enforce christian values in it's followers. Stop this hippie feel-good bullshit that people falsely attribute to JPII and start acting as shepards to the faithfull once again.
