Greetings fellow /lit/izens.

In the past 3 years I have strived to live more seriously: a life full of goodness, of self(will)-affirmation, of interpretation. I owe gratitude to this community for the discourse.

I am however finishing a bleak Bachelour (BA of European Studies), which made room for philosophy minors and optional courses, but is nonetheless quite nihil in its essence.

I was wondering, what journey does a fellow studying philosophy have? I am asking this for I wish to study philosophy more profoundly and eventually become a phil professor (I am from a coal-tier Eastern European country where I wish to instill education, but am currently studying in the West). I have dedicated some significant time to self-study and wish to go into philosophical hermeneutics (Ricoeur and Gadamer, after experiencing the upbringings of the unfathomable Neetch and Heidig).

tldr; How does /lit/ study philosophy? What academic path have you taken to practice philosophy in a specific field? (Professor, ethical advisor, PhD...)

And as far as becoming a philosophy professor is concerned... if you have to ask, you probably can't make it. Not because you're daft, but because the system is rigged.

The Greek way: find a job that pays enough for the level of comfort you seek, contribute to the city, join the public, civic life, apply philosophy in your every act.
Getting out of academia did free me in that matter, but I needed to go through it nonetheless.

OP here. I truly wish to participate in the cultural environment of the community in which I wish to teach.

I may have a folly understanding of jobs, as I see job security in combination with spiritual passion as an ideal worth safeguarding. I dont plan just to stay and isolate myself in the laboratory of academia. On the contrary, I wish to eventualy contribute to a new wave of philosophy (new wave of academia in the world) which is quite poorly developed in my patria.

I was just curious to hear how any other has developed his (philosophy) professorship ideal. I clearly will ask some of my philosophy teachers for advice, but I was curious what you guyce have to say.

I did start with Plato and read hus main dialogues. I was an amateur Platonist and will study him further if fate (by will) brings me to his Warudo. I briefly went through all philosophers up to the mid-20th century. I will consider a return to the study of the PreSocratics as well.

Just beware: teach yourself a proper job. Difficult times are coming, they will provide enough lessons for you to study and teach philosophy.

I have said it before but Nick Land marked the grave of philosophy. His appearance is devoid of all soul and thought. Purely utilitarian in an attempt to be pragmatic and clean; analytical. How can someone who chooses to look like this even pretend to have an internal monologue?

I don't. Philosophy is for dreamers and weaklings who can't stomach the hard sciences (history and racism). Stemcels are braindead and shallow nitwits too.

OP, if you can't get into a top 5 program, don't bother. You're more likely to irl neck yourself than you are to land a tenure track job. If this is a visa thing and you just want to piss away some more time stateside, by all means do so, but make plans for back in the old country as an unemployed PhD, because that's what you'd be when your doctorate is over. Good luck.

Op yet again. I do intend to keep philosophy personal, but I really want to share what one calls wisdom, with the others via teaching. I really think becoming a teacher, even a poor one or an unknown one, is noble and a settlement which I fervently seek. I was considering History as well, but it is bland and dismally boring, at least how it is practiced by most historians.

I appreciate your sincerest of concerns (even with the ironic tones). I don't care too much about the ranking of the Uni which I plan to attend. The coordinator of my minor did mention however, that she will write me a recommendation letter for Leiden, the Uni which I wish to attend (and where she has friends in the Philosophy Department). Leiden also has one of the top 5 faculties of philosophy in Europe, and is nr.1 in Continental Europe, at least according to QS or whatever. Nonetheless, hard work and tumultuous investment awaits me before enjoying the dynamic "professional" (serious) life outside Academia.

PS: Sadly (or not?), I got severely disappointed with Accelerationist Theory for I could find meaning and significance in Land's work (Fisher most likely, at least congeneric), but his Deleusian-based;) obscurity disinterests me, and I find it to be an occultist sp00k, albeit material reality sometimes creating conditions for this theory to appear relevant.
