Seriously though, what the fuck is a blockchain?

It's a program code where the whole code is saved on every computer that has it (say a bitcoin). They constantly check each other to make sure all copies are the same so you can't edit it.
There are different variations, different speeds at checking and ways of checking but this makes it effectively unhackable

You can have the code so where it builds on itself in its own manner. For bitcoin they have a mining and trading addition and they use pictures or random things that marks the particular bitcoin and all computers have that tiny image or thing in it. Some had childporn, idk wat they did to fix that I just remember it was in the news. But the idea is you can make a voting system w it or develop apps w it although I don't understand the draw of that, haven't looked into it

It's just a ledger. If you're on 4chan you could understand the essentials of cryptocurrency in the length of a ten minute YouTube video.

Voting through blockchain means it can't effectively be rigged
There are even better uses of it though, imagine stock in the blockchain, where everyone may have access to trading markets just as easy as they use Facebook

A blockchain is a type of data structure, like a linked list but with hash pointers so that surreptitious modification of any part of the list is impossible without modifying the entire list. This is because the hash pointers keep a digest of the previous element in the list, so that modification of any of element will propagate through all the hash pointers after that element.

A pointer is literally just something that points to some other thing.

A linked list is a way to organize data. It consists of a collection of objects and each object knows what the "next" object is. So it is possible to start from the first and eventually reaching the last object by following this trail of "next" objects.

If you have some big chunk of data, you can calculate a sort of digital fingerprint of it, which is called a hash.

A system where a subgroup of nodes in the network keep track of what's being broadcast and a bunch of math that makes sure people are being kept from getting gaslighted with false information by a swarm of malicious nodes.
It can be used for bank-like records.

Bitcoin was the first one designed in a way that everybody could join while also being save as long as more than 50 of all nodes aren't malicious.
It achieves this by an overhead of a shitload of "wasted" electrical energy.

A more naive approach to keeping such a communal record is instead to broadcast more and not only ask people for their data, but also to forward what other people have said to them, to find out if somebody is telling different people different storties. That has a lower % of savety, but is more straightforward to understand:
