I don't understand why people here hate the Lobsterman or The School of Life or any of those pseud-entry-level-"philosophy" channels. They don't claim to be a rigorous interpretation of the principles studied. They simply serve an entry-level stimulus for people that could potentially be interested in philosophy to read more about it by themselves. Everyone needs to start somewhere and many people don't even need to go deep into the studied principles to find some meaning in their lives, which is all they were looking for in the first place. Others that could actually be interested in philosophy, but don't have the faintest idea of what it entails, may find out about its existence through those media.

Of course, claiming you understand Hegel after watching youtube videos on him means you're a stupid fucking jogger, but that's a different issue.

Because the baldie states his heavily interpolated interpretations of the philosophers he talks about, not their actual ideas.

No, they alter the the interpretation to fit their own narratives.

The problem is they don't even offer a superficial introduction most of the time. They're just used as a means to spread the message they want to, which is mostly just the lowest level of self-help tripe.

Yup.
Pewdiepie from all people actually makes more accurate philosophy videos.
I mean, at least he doesn't say "Plato says you should embrace your fetishes" or "Seneca says you should reduce your anger so you have sex more often with your wife".

They satiate a curiosity and search for truth with biased takes and half-truths. You'd be surprised at how many people think there's no need to read if you can just watch a short video on it or take the opinions /conclusions of some "expert" as your own.

Because midwits think that by claiming something else is stupid they have proven themselves to be too smart for that stupid thing.
