Most come from western deistic philosophies, so it's normal that advaita seems mind-blowing to them. But this alone doesn't explain why anons here are so aggressive towards advaita.

Advaita is associated with Guenon because of how out of all the writers and philosophers that /lit/ talks about Guenon talks about it the most, and so people who were inclinded to disagree with Guenon already sometimes associate Advaita with him and assume a hostility to it because of that. Also it tends to be one of the common Indian schools focused on by perennialists like Aldous Huxley, Ken Wilber, and all sorts of other people, so for people who want to criticize perennialism it's a low-hanging fruit and obvious target. To some Christians they see it as blasphemous, idolotrous and as an inversion of Christian doctrine and they don't like seeing it on /lit/. Lastly Shankara criticized various Buddhist teachings in his writings as illogical so he is a lightning rod for angry Buddhists to hyperfocus on and take their anger out on. All in all a perfect storm of events

I have nothing against Shankaracharya. He's a good thinker. This fake dispute between hinduism and buddhism is pathetic. Buddhism, jainism and hinduism tolerate themselves, except in rare occasions, for 2,500 years.
Shankara is inspired by buddhism logics, but rejects the "heterodoxy" of buddhism from vedas, preaching for vedanta and, ultimately, through bhaja govindam, for bhakti. His thought is inspiring even if you don't agree with him.

Even that aside, most people don't care to read blocks of navel-gazing text by and about a bunch of obscurantist South Asian monks on the literature forum.
