Also, to your question, you should read widely in those traditions, not with the goal of synthesizing, but with the goal of understanding them on their own terms. Once you have understood a tradition on its own terms, you will be able to do something with it.

Beyond that, there isn't a lot that can be found (in english) from Tomofusa on Mishima.
