There are stupid village Buddhists, and then there are Buddhists who are philosophers, neurologists, etc.

There are stupid village Hindus, and then there are great Hindu philosophers.

What branches of Buddhism brought Buddhism to the west? Zen (via people like Shunryu Suzuki and Thich Nhat Hanh) and Tibetan Vajrayana (via the Shambhala organization). Zen is one of the most intellectually rigorous forms of Buddhism that exists. Vajrayana isn't, but the heads of the organization were literal historians, archivists, etc.

Who brought Hinduism to the west? The Hare Krishnas (a dumb cult of white kids with dreads) and The Beatles.

I think that's why we view them the way we do.

Possibly, but you have to get into a direct relationship with a real Vajrayana master, it’s unlikely you can make up the situation yourself. What Vajrayana/tantric traditions do is basically mindfuck the disciples superhard to accelerate their getting rid of their bad karma and reaching enlightenment, although this has sometimes also happened in the annals of Zen. At their core, Zen and Vajrayana are about developing the same or similar experiences. The outer traditions and rituals are different, though.

>lord Buddha
A Buddha is it a title of someone which has reached enlightenment (means "one who has awakened" to reality) and usually when Buddhists speak of Buddha they usually mean Siddhartha Gautama, but can also be used informally as a suffix of someone enlightened (Buddhahood is used formally) . Also even though the monks have a semi hierarchical society the have no "lord" / call someone a lord (at least in Theravada Buddhism), Siddhartha is viewed upon as the example of how to live, or as the main philosopher in Buddhism.
As in why they are more well read i cannot answer because i have only talked to around three Hindus. But many in my book club are studying and hence reading a lot of theory, however in general we are a very diverse group in terms of theoretical knowledge.
In my opinion gods serve more of a symbolic purpose in opposition to Hinduism. For example in the Tibetan book of the dead, my understanding was that each god served as a symbol to recognize what to do in Bardo (when dying / after life, before being reborn). In my opinion meditating on "gods" and memorizing how they look and are associated with, trains your brain to easier visualize state of minds and thus "control" it better. A christian would maybe see christian symbols in the Bardo.

I am member in a local Theravada Buddhist book club, and member in my country's Buddhist membership, however i am still learning and not currently reading theory, also i do not strictly follow the philosophy at the moment so please correct me if i am wrong. If you are interested in Buddhism i really recommend "the Tibetan book of the dead" both the narrated version and the direct translation, pretty comfy.

Got my dad to start reading Simulacra and Simulation, however he is having a hard time understanding the language and theory. For me it was pretty easy since i had already knew some theory from the book. So i really want to my dad to start reading and understanding what it is about since he loves symbolism (has probably more than ten books on the subject), now however he is pretty old and forgetful. I don't understand where the idea that in buddhism gods, heavens and hells are just symbols comes from. In buddhism you already subscribe to idea that you are under an illusion or dream, so on what basis they say that gods and demons aren't real, or they are more of a illusion than one you are under.

>In buddhism you already subscribe to idea that you are under an illusion or dream
My understanding is more than anything i know about reality is a interpretation of it, and hence not the essence of it. The idea that life is an illusion is more about that the self, and material world isn't the essence of reality. Just our experience. Illusion does not mean that something is not real, just misinterpreted or distorted interpretation. Like the illusion in the image, the square isn't fake or "not real". Our minds interpret it the same as a normal square. However drawn it does not equal a square. The sense of something being a square is a human created concept and stems from humans naming patterns and recognizing them. "Gods" are experienced in Bardo as real to the person undergoing it, but not a absolute truth thus an illusion. But the experience of how they look like, what they are attributed to, what they do etc, is something you learn. The use of "Gods" is an abstraction of which makes navigation in Bardo easier.

You can find a lot of dimwitted white converts to Buddhism too. It's more that in the absence of an indigenous and sincere faith based tradition yo have a lot of retards who try and latch onto a LARP of some foreign faith because it's exotic and exciting. The same thing happened in the late 19th early 20th century with the decline of Christianity at the time and popularity of Theosophy, the rise of the occult and first Western experiences of translated Hindu and Buddhist texts.

That said from what I've seen of Buddhism it seems pretty solid. I'm just too worldly to really be able to actually adhere to it.
