No such thing as an identity, its only separation from ones true nature.
Its merely imposed backround lore + social indoctrination its all unreal and transient; ancestors, country, ethnicity etc all parts of the role ask yourself who is playing the role , you die you lose the role and start a completely new other role. its all bullshit in the end only awareness remains.

As somebody with a lot of Norwegian ancestry, a kid's book I read as a child was my introduction into Norse legends and sagas and all. The Saga of Erik the Viking is a great read from ages 8 to 80. Afterwards, I got into Anglo-Saxon poetry and the Sagas, but this was the original.

To be fair, though, reading other cultures' ancient legends have probably been just as important -- got to know what you aren't in order to know what you are. So old Japanese and Korean stuff, the Hebrew Bible, Greek classics...

But that's a somewhat mystical answer (can distant ancestors really be an "identity"?), so I'll give a second one to complement it. Closer to home, I'm from the Rust Belt and so Kurt Vonnegut's books (he's a Hoosier) feel very homey. Hocus Pocus in particular. For a deep feeling of connection, maybe one should try reading books from one's geographic region...?

I've always had the sneaking suspicion than 90% of the human race is just a massive circlejerk.

Like go to any group of people with the same banal interests, or who listen to the same bands, who who speak the same dialect, or who look slightly similar to each other. Do they have productive dialogues about these apparent commonalities? Never, it's all the same lame non-conversations, only everyone is slobbering over each other's dicks because they perceive some common ground.

It's even worse when you go around people for whom "identity" is a big part of their life. Spent some time in college, and every shade of brown, even the mutt kids who just had brown eyes and a third world parents, would all clump together to complain about how one time somebody crossed the street in front of them and how they're so cool and hardworking for "surviving" in the "white supremacy" system. Bunch of obnoxious nigs, all dumb as shit, but they ran in groups sucking each other off so they never had to deal with the discomfort of realizing they aren't special.

Not that white people are any different. Like I'm riding on the train and some fucking junky with a shaved head and swastika tats sits next to me and starts bitching about his life like I owe him money for being his "aryan brother" or whatever gay shit.

And everywhere I go whenever people get into a group of three or more, it just seems to turn into a hug-box circlejerk where everyone needs to acknowledge how special and unique everyone else is in order to be accepted. I used to use it for my advantage, taking whatever ethnic ambiguity I could use to get free shit and favours from the mouth-breathing cunts who cared. It was interesting to see how groups of kikes traveling from Israel would step over homeless gentiles in the street then buy me a meal when I told them I was a "jewthiest".

Do people even have friends? Interests? Passions? More and more most people just strike me as automatons trying to carve out some imaginary niche for security, telling themselves "I am this and this and this" so that they never have to see themselves for what they really are. It all falls apart under the smallest bit of scrutiny or pressure too, so they lash out violently at even the suggestion that they aren't really the protagonist in their imagined mental movie.

That shit keeps me up at night, man.

I've come to terms that when my parents die, I'll have lost any real, meaningful ties to my culture/ethnicity.

I don't have many friends of my cultural background and only have a basic grasp of my mother tongue, so any attempts at a notion of cultural identity through books will be just academic and not based on a true, lived reality.

Nice post fren. Sometimes I wonder whether we've lost something that many past generations took for granted, namely that their literature described places (and kinds of places) fundamentally like their own. Even if you aren't inclined to the volkisch and mystic (I am, but still) that must have powerful subtle effects when compounded on itself across generations.

I'm not sure what awakened me to my own people. I slowly became a fascist the more I learned about Europe's history and philosophy. Maybe reading history was the biggest influence. But reading the history of other peoples too like you say.

Hegel + 300ug + aggressive deconstruction showed me the triviality of all particularities, of all that identity celebrates. All identity is cope. It is one thing to recognise the contingency of your individual self, as crafted by tradition and history, it is another to celebrate that contingency (or equally to angrily renounce it). Tradition is art is beautiful is cope is illusion. Try not to find reasons for your own recognition (by others) in your every happenstance.

You don't need to predicate your sense of identity on a mystical experience that taps you into your national earth, or feel the presence of God on a pilgrimage like the narrator in Submission. Most people will assert some form of cultural or national identity if you ask them. They haven't arrived at their answer through a personal journey of self-exploration and veneration of the traditions of their ancestors, they've likely grown up in a particular cultural milieu, acquired familiarity with a unique form of social conventions, etc. and then have come to understand themselves as 'English', or 'French', or 'Punjabi' and so on.

Regardless of the perspective you have developed concerning the culture in which you were raised, you remain tied to it through certain patterns of behaviour and certain conscious or unsoncious responses to given social cues, traditions and rituals. I was mostly raised in the U.K. but I have family in a Mediterranean country. I spent a lot of time and learned that with the language came a wholly different series of cultural cues and accepted or encouraged behaviours. Regardless of whether I 'like' or 'endorse' British drinking culture, I instinctively understand how one is meant to behave in a pub, how you talk to people, what social conventions exist and so on. If one of my foreign relatives comes to visit, regardless of whether they 'like' the social conventions of British drinking culture, even if they like it more than I do, they don't have the immutable familiarity with it that comes naturally to an Englishman raised in that cultural milieu. You can't say it comes from something primordial lurking deep in my blood, but it is something that is inextricable from a personal sense of identity.

That's cool bro. I think it's absolutely wonderful to build an identity out of history and place. Geography is definitely fundamental in forming culture/a people. Like how all the ancients in northern Europe (and also for some reason Japan) are into worshiping trees, but for the Mediterranean people it's always a sun or a rain/thunder god.

I originally got into Nordic identity because my parents raised me neo-pagan. It's a good thing to believe in. Funny that you are a fascist, though -- I am a communist. We probably don't agree on much else.

>> No.15115310

>>15115216
I like to think of the manifest aspects, like those often reduced by anthropologists to "well they were around trees a lot so they anthropomorphized and divinized trees," being just the (currently) visible and "en-worlded" extensions of things that have esoteric dimensions as well. And I like to think that the visible is not simply an emanation or imperfect manifestation of the esoteric, but it has a function too. There's a reason we have been thrown into the world to interact with particular, contingent trees just as much as there is a reason why there are different root-races (in some sense) at an esoteric level.

I say fascist but I probably have more in common with you than you think. I would say Nazbol if it wasn't a meme. I usually say national socialist with lower case n and s. Capitalism is cancer, the future is organic socialism, I just don't think hardcore materialist Marxism of the ca. 1900 variety is going to accomplish that. I tend to think that the best Marxists, like Sombart and Gramsci, become non-internationalist, non-reductive socialists at the end of the day, and that even the better anti-fascist Marxists like the Frankfurt School were themselves chafing at not being able to return to "right Hegelianism."

Any Marxism whose ultimate "why bother?" question is answered with vague reference to virtues like freedom, but while denying any metaphysical anchorage for those virtues and instead gesturing to humanist/bourgeois sentimentalism, is Marxism that ultimately can't justify itself. I'm a Marxist because I fucking hate capitalism because I love freedom and the free self-creation of individuals (people, peoples, and through these, humanity as a whole).

Sounds like you hang out with superficial rich people. When people (of all races) are rich, identity is a nametag they wear. They brag about it, but it doesn't mean anything. It might as well be designer clothing. Often their friendships mean nothing as well. They have never been tested, never had to realize what really matters in a moment of crisis. They have never needed deep empathy.

The only identities that really matter are those forged through shared suffering. Pain is where brotherhood is born -- when people help each other through rough shit, real identity takes root. When a family comes together after a child's death, or a community in the face of a natural disaster, or a church when somebody's house burns down, or a platoon under enemy fire. These are the strongest identities. The rest is a pretty shallow, I agree.

>you see, the problem is that you are not around people that identify with the attribute I identify with. Those people are of course shallow, but there is this one thing that I and a select for other people have in our experiences which makes our lives and identities much more meaningful and deep. Yes, my poor brother, this is it. We are this and they are that so let’s sit together in the shade for a while and jerk at each other’s dickies about how authentic we are.
Like clockwork. You probably don’t even comprehend how much you’re proving the OP’s point.

I am willing to reject rich/poor facticity as long as I also reserve my right to liquidate the moneyed classes

Being poor and spending much of my life around poor people all i can say is that it slowly eats away at your soul and crushes decent people through constant abuse and anxiety. Many of the kindest and engaging people I’ve met have been the well of children of doctors and lawyers, because they could afford a kind of aristocratic affability. You can only starve, get spit on, sleep on the streets, etc. so many times before you loose some of your goodness. I’ve seen the most decent man I know turned into a heroin fueled cell of a man and a petty crook out of desperation and poverty. Working dead end jobs, having deadbeat relatives, and drifting in and out of prison isn’t authentic,
It’s a miserable way to live.

Stop fetishizing something you’ve probably never experienced because you grew up lower middle class. Stupid cunt.
