The greatest philosophers were a frog, an anglo, and a burger. Let that sink in.

Based. Fuck the Germans. They have brought nothing of value except music.

Whitehead and James, the first is quoted from time to time by Deleuze; the second was considered one of the most important philosophers (if not the most) by the first

I'm a little over halfway through this and am struggling to finish it. Barzun was extremely well-read, but his writing is a rambling mess and he comes off as a bit of a contrarian.

Not as crisp as his earlier stuff but I found his anecdotal (almost aphoristic) style rather refreshing but then I double majored in English lit and Euro historiography so had already read many of the authors he references (his suggested reading is solid). Written in his '90's (his last major work) it does have the feel of needing to tie up loose ends so I get where youre coming from. Nonetheless I loved it.

Guenon's Perennial philosophy and Wittgenstein's language philosophy are both analytic in their belief in the absence of the possibility of asserting anything as true except for a thing being itself.

Saying "fuck the Germans" in a thread about Deleuze, Whitehead, and James is like saying "fuck Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson" in a discussion about Led Zeppelin.

Hegel was a schizo.
Kant was the autism king.
Continental philosophy probably has no less autistic people than analytic philosophy does but due to /lit/'s Nintendo vs Sony-type mindset, I'm not surprised people would want to lump everything in each side as representatives of radically opposed ways of thinking.

Leibniz and Schelling's inquiries into neo-Heracliteanism made way for Whitehead and Deleuze's process philosophy.
Kant's fixation on the impossibility of knowing the thing in itself and establishing proper cause-effect relations is what provoked the rise of Absolute Idealism and allowed for Pragmatism to become an accepted school of philosophical thought as opposed to as a common sense-type mindset
This is similar to how blues music made in the Deep South in America influenced 1960s and 1970s blues/hard rock bands in England, obviously in terms of the instruments used, but also in terms of rhythm patterns and melodies
