/sci/ is mostly:

>insecure undergrads trying to prove they took the 'best' major (avg IQ, salary, whatever)
>race realists/evo psych freaks
>laymen with an interest in pop science

similarly to how the average /lit/ user is more infatuated with the idea of being a reader than actually reading (has possibly read a few entry-level /lit/core pieces), high-quality posters don't tend to come to 4chan

Most people, by definition, are midwits. And most of /sci/ is not scientists, so not sure how your post is relevant to what OP is asking.
>>14940635
I think I agree with this anon. While clearly both boards have a handful of people who are passionate, curious and knowledgeable about things they discuss, most of the posters in both boards are baitposters, trollposters, unironic retards and schizophrenics, pseuds caring only about the idea of being a mathfag/reader rather than actual math/books, /pol/fags, religiousfags who constantly try to derail every thread, obnoxious racists.
On average I'd say /sci/ has a little bit more people who are actually curious and like to study (you see them on /mg/ and /sqt/) but that doesn't necessarily mean it's more intelligent, just that the discussions are just a little bit higher quality.
How to improve both boards:
-Better moderation. Ball all the low-quality posters as well as all the schizos, stormfags and trolls.

Try to actually discuss topology in /sci/, no one will know what the fuck you are talking about.

They are obsessed with 'simple problems' like HURRRR CAN YOU DEFINE blahblah IN THE REALS

DURRRR DOES INFINITY REALLY EQUAL -1/12????

Stupid borderline retarded shit gets asked over and over again.

Just read mathematical literature, and post here occasionally and discuss it with me or someone who reads mathematics. :3

I'd say /sci/. Most people on /lit/ don't even read anything and use this as a board to shitpost about ideas they've vaguely heard about. On /sci/ you at least have some people that have studied their field and can do mathematics, physics, etc. This board is more obsessed with appearing intelligent than actually possessing any quantifiable intelligence. I have discussed books more outside of /lit/ than in /lit/ itself. Just open up the catalog, it will have pictures of some 40 year old cow ( Butterfly ), Guenon garbage and just shitposting that hasn't even got anything to do with books.

I'd have to say /lit/, although that may be more informed by experiences in life then on the boards. People in /sci/ related fields, other than mathematicians in general and some outliers in other fields, are often hopelessly incapable of entertaining realities other than their own. You pull an engineer off the street and they will be incapable of discussing anything artistic, aesthetic, philosophical, etc.; if not outrightly dismissive and scornful.

In college I double majored in Math (BS) and Art (BFA), and took a fair amount of compsci classes The art students - painters, creative writers, sculptors, and so on - where always interested in hearing about pure mathemtics, even though they did not have much of a framework for placing the ideas, beyond an appreciation for the characteristic of math to complement the physical world. Math students, and especially the professors, held a high appreciation for aesthetic topics, but the gross majority of compsci or engineering or physics kids just had nothing to say at all about anything other than their field. Really kind of sad.

/sci/ is where you find the real psueds, hiding behind the guise of rationalism or w/e. It takes some degree of intellect to be a /lit/ pseud, unless you just read YA fiction.

>>14941335
I think you might be bringing topology up in the wrong threads then. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on /sci/, espcially where math is concerned.

FWIW I've found there to be more rigor with regards to computer science and related topics on /g/ then /sci/, you just have to avoid the headphone threads and "which distro" threads.
