I have decided to live a more ascetic life without the modernist distractions of computer screens.
As a writer, how do I move away to a fully paper and pen approach to editing and drafting my works? I have already bought huge stacks of some nice off-white paper and a fountain pen.
How exactly did the giants of old such as Tolstoy (pbuh) accomplish the insane feat of writing something like War and Peace without a computer machine?

Use a typewriter? I’m unironically thinking of doing this myself. I’ve come to love-hate computers and phones but either way I’m addicted.

You gotta be careful, man.Self-optimization is the death of creativity.

Tolstoy made his wife redraft his works

On the contrary, a more ascetic life with pen and paper is a direct refutation of bugman practices like optimization.

I'm not married yet, but I would prefer my future wife to be unlettered.

You could get a typewriter to avoid getting carpal tunnel redrafting your writing

Alternatively, I'd recommend buying an Alpha Smart Neo 2. They've been discontinued, but you can still buy them for cheap off Ebay.

I’ve recently made the shift to pen and paper myself and hate using normal notebooks. If I’m writing some poetry, it’s fine, but I actually bought one of those ring binders and it honestly changed the way I approach writing. Since you move pages quite easily, you can play with structure and such. The alternative is using a typewriter.
