I think Houellebecq should be required burger reading, euroburger if you must. Serotonin especially has this extremely lethargic feeling to it that fits the concept. Lanzarote reminds me of this too. Of course, it isn't a driving past strip malls eating McDonalds sort of thing but the essence is there.

"Strip malls. Limitless chancres on the American landscape. The countless, fathomless Niagara of strip malls. They are all the same. Dunkin' Donuts. Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's. Radio Shack, Long John Silver's, Arby's, Hardee's, Krispy Kreme, Baskin-Robbins, Dippin' Dots, Carvel. -the character Mohamed Atta, in Jarett Kobek's "ATTA". The goodness and genius of American architecture is that it upsets muslims and leftists.

I drive on this five or six times a week. It is actually larger and more developed now than in the picture. Ironically, adding more lanes actually slowed down traffic.

It's not ironic, this is a well-known law. Increasing road capacity just means people drive more, leading to even more congested roads.

That's why large cities like London, Paris, Beijing, etc., have draconian anti-car laws.

(They're sold to the public as anti-pollution measures, but that's not really what they're for.)
