I don't believe in it, if you honestly just keep writing what you were searching for will eventually come to you. Writer's block is a made up twitter illness for people to get more likes on their tweets usually women. More likely than not people suffering from this 'writer's block' don't even make the effort to write their troubles out, if the ideas don't present themselves wide open and obvious in their mind they roll over and give up and call it an illness.
>Yes, I have writer's block an illness that only occurs to writers, yes I write, but it only occurs to writers that, ofcourse, are writing a story, yes i'm a writer how did you know>?

Don't try to write. Let it come naturally. Daydream. Listen to music. Take a walk. Always carry around a small notebook. Drink plenty of water. Think of any random sentence and just run with it to see where it goes. If it goes nowhere, you can always delete it and start again. Think of how you're feeling and express that feeling as best you can. Look around out the window and describe things happening in your writing. (I once spent sometime writing about what a cat was doing out there and that was interesting).

Mostly, go out there and live. A writer has to write about something. If you stay cooped up all day trying to write something based on what you've heard about it, you'll get nothing substantive. Live your life interestingly and fulfilled. Cope with suffering. Take risks. Befriend strangers. Only then, with these experiences will your dialogue and your writing sharpen up.

Also: make sure to read and write daily. At least make the effort. Even if it's dumb or unimportant. Write. Read.

Just write. Writer's block is a spook.
All it is is willpower.

Set a timer for 15 minutes or as long as you'd like, write your string of consciousness. No stopping allowed, no editing allowed. After that you can edit the previous session. Writers block is the part of your brain that edits being in conflict with the part that creates. Don't let them act at the same time.

When I have writer's block I separate whatever I wrote previously and just start typing garbage
Reading that garbage the following session makes it easier to focus on what you really want to write

I realize the piece sucks. Otherwise, I know I have to cultivate a mood to continue writing well. A lack of ideas means you didn't have a large enough of an idea to produce the length you aspired to. Put whatever you feel should go on the page and worry about revising it later.

i think i've realized that when i struggle with a scene it's because it's boring, and it's boring because there's no real conflict in it. i then open up a word document and type out stuff stream of consciousness style with a focus on trying to come up with some conflict that can be injected without seeming too contrived, or try to find a solution to whatever other problem i run into.
just start with establishing your problem like: "X doesn't work, and the reason it doesn't work is because Y, what happens if Z happens or" and then make a list of stuff that could happen, or a list of stuff that absolutely can't happen.
it helps with focusing your thinking, and then you have suggestions and thoughts written down you can sort through
