An initiatic text, if you have the eyes to see it.

The greatest book ever written. RIP if you don't read it in italian, I dunno how you guys manage to read it in english, it loses so much meaning and "shades"

That's kind of what I'm looking for. I'm in a part of my life where I want to reinvent myself for the better but old bad habits are in the way, and I also feel like I lack direction.

Even if exaggerating, this is nice. And I imagine the translation thing is similar, much like Shakespeare or Joyce in other languages. Borges said Dante was a better writer than Shakespeare.

Then you should truly immerse yourself in it and be aware that you are in hell.
Furthermore, keep in your mind that Beatriz is Dante's intellect- the part that Plotinus asseveres that has remained in the intelligible world. You could consider her to be the Logos itself, too.
You could read Vita Nuova before, to get to know Dante's thought closer, since it's clearer and shorter.

Read Guénon's The Esoterism of Dante. It's quite helpful. His Insights into Christian Esoterism contain a few chapters on Dante as well.

I know what you mean but this statement is obviously exaggerating

In the context of the Divine Comedy. it's no an exaggeration at all, in my humble opinion. If you are to read it through initiatic eyes, that hell is nothing but the state of the man of passions. Once you begin reading it, it will probably be clear to you that Dante's hell is more compatible with our current state than the post mortem situation.

Are you serious? Dante's Vita Nuova makes no sense apart from the allegory. The man himself said that his works give way to four different interpretations. To reduce it to the literal sense is to make it no better than profane modern works.
