Today I picked up thus spoke zarathustra and I was wondering if I should start with it ?

Don't start with it, it is the highest expression of Nietzsche's philosophy which recquires a lot of self-education to begin to grasp. Either start with The Gay Science, On the Genealogy of Morality, Beyond Good and Evil, or even better : a short essay that I strongly recommend from his early works (just after The Birth of Tragedy) which is called "On Truth and Lie in an Extra-Moral Sense". It's a great introduction to him I think.

If you do that you'll end up like the loads of people with embarrassingly wrong takes on Nietzsche. Start with Twilight of the Idols; It's a short introduction to his work written by himself. Then The Birth of Tragedy -> Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense -> Schopenhauer as an Educator -> Beyond Good and Evil -> Genealogy of Morality -> Thus Spoke Zarathustra -> Ecce Homo. All the good things in between like Gay Science are also very much worth reading but they don't constitute his main philosophical work. Also make sure you know your Schopenhauer before starting.

I literally read everything Nietzsche wrote which has come up in this thread BEFORE I read Zarathustra. All within the two months prior to beginning my reading. Did not make it enjoyable.
This is my word of caution to anyone who might begin reading Nietzsche in this thread. Zarathustra could have been extremely confusing if I had not read his other work first, but even then, understanding the text is different than enjoying or getting anything out of it.
