Holy shit. I finished The Gay Science and Thus Spoke Zarathustra and I had a revelation.

Every nice person, every person with a hint of kindness is genuinely, honestly a cuck. A complete an utter slave. It was rough coming to terms with this, but I've pretty much become a complete asshole the past week. I'm a straight-shooter now and I openly tell my friends what's wrong with them, what I dislike about them, and how to fix their issues. Most of them are angry at me, but it's just part of the slave morality that plagues them. I no longer tip my Postmates drivers, or tip at all at restaurants. I harass people online in video games if they're inconveniencing me in some shape or form, and I explained to my TA why he was a fuckwit during one of my labs, when he couldn't parse a particular circuit.

I'm not sure if this was what I was supposed to get from this, but it feels fucking liberating, bros.

There is a reason why in his The Tragedy of Birth he transforms the pessimistic quote, " the best in life is never to have been born at all, the second best, dying as soon as possible, " to "the second best is to laugh." He isn't some downer, which is the profane view.

Because they aren't really nice. They've co-opted the word to refer to what they think nice means. Nietzsche was far more generous than any of them will ever be, because he was man enough to give others his own rather than their own and leave them with greater value as a result.

And you're moving on up from them, but you're not quite there yet, because you're still using their concept of being nice. It's not that kindness makes you a cuck, but that their brand of it does. Only the strong can redeem kindness from weakness.

I am reading the Penguin Classics translation of Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

In Part 2 - The Prophet (yes, that's how they translated what is generally referred to as the "soothsayer") there is the following teaching:

>Everything is empty, everything is one, everything is past!

The "prophet" shows up again in Part 4 and Zarathustra attributes to him a quote that I could not remember so I had to go back and get help from other sources because I got confused thinking I must have missed it somehow. It turns out that quote reads very differently in the other translations I came across, something more to the tune of:

I understand Penguing Classics aren't exactly a source for students of philosophy and are targeted at the layman market, but how can their translation be so vastly different from the others out there? Sure if this was ancient Greek or some other dead language it would be understandable, but we are talking about a fairly modern German work, I don't understand how they could fuck this up so badly.
I had my doubts when I first realised they use "superman" rather than the more widely accepted "overman" in their version. Now I'm thinking of reading this book again from a different publisher because God knows how much of what I've read was sloppily translated.

How badly do you have to misread the guy to come to this conclusion? Master morality is dependent on slave morality in order to function - you are nothing but a false nobleman, you require those who are weak for your strength, and so may never have any true strength. You have to go down, then come up again; be a bridge, not a part in an eternally corrupt and toxic duality. Nietzsche refutes himself many times, you need to know when those times are otherwise you interpret it as "lol just be an asshole" the way you have done. Read the genealogy of morals.
