14679421 No.14679421 [Reply] [Original]

It's starting to dawn on me that there is no difference between philosophical reasoning and mathematics and that all philosopy can be remodelled, much more concisely, concretely and much less riddled with verbosity in mathematics. How do you cope with this?

A has opacity of argument y with conciseness of x
B has opacity of argument y-1 with conciseness of x+1

all A statements can be modelled as B statements
therefore B is the more concise and less opaque way of reasoning

The real kicker is that this is actually applicable. I.e. you can define the world mathematically and then use mathematical tools to optimize your actions until you become a Heinlein-type Mary Sue who can astrogate and fuck at the same time.

Logic and mathematics present forms with implicit presuppositions and exclusions. Though very general and powerful, they cannot capture the full range of language because even in philosophy this full range is pushed and pushed far beyond. Hence why philosophy can often seem like gibberish.

philosophy uses language to examine anything. language can be formally modelled, ergo anything that philosophy can do can be modelled in a formal system while getting rid of all the unecessary junk philosophy produces.
