Why is there so much philosophy on this board? Why can't we just discuss literature?

Get yourself out a piece of paper.

Start ranking things in order of how based they are. The most based things get discussed the most. Philosophy wins this big a long con.

Because despite endless asking, those who will not be named say that there would be no point to a philosophy and religion board, because it is either for /lit/ or /his/ or /pol/. /Lit/ has just been the most accepting board for conversations which deserve their own board. Consistently, we are told that there are not sufficient threads on philosophy and religion to have their own board, and yet it is an obvious self-fulfilling argument; if philosophy and religion threads are not tolerated on /lit/ and /his/ beyond the scope of those boards, then obviously those threads won't exist. Every board that has ever been made has always grown in comparison to the original threads which spawned it. It's pretty obvious that religion and philosophy threads move faster than any thread on /wsg/ or /p/ or /out/. The more likely outcome of such a split is that /lit/ would die, since philosophy and religion now make up at least the plurality of threads. I imagine this thread will soon be either deleted or moved.

The real reason is because the other boards that might possibly be philosophical blow at it half the time. /his/ is filled neoliberal faggots and redditors who would never once consider their uncritically derived and pedestrian worldview is wrong, and /pol/ is /pol/ (though I've seen some really good posts on /pol/ and /his/).

No ones arguing that philosophy shouldn't go here, it just takes up a disproportionate amount of discussion. No one ever really talks about creative literature even though it ties into philosophy and is at least as important. Poetry especially is something that receives little to no discussion, whenever people bring it up it's completely surface level engagement

Kinda missing anon's point, insofar as the prevalence of philosophy threads might very well take up interest that could otherwise be spent on lit threads. I mean, he can post shit about literature all day and not get the responses he deserves, if everybody is stuffed up Guenon's asshole

because most of the people that use this board are socially awkward american teenagers who think that reading philosophy will give them a sense of self worth and will act as a stand-in for social interaction and give them some way of blaming someone else for the misery of their lives

Easier to pointlessly argue about. Its why discussion of authors instead of the works themselves is more common imo

because
1. philosophy is intrinsic in literature, so a lot of people interested in literature get naturally attracted to philosophy. If you are not exposed to philosophy reading literature, you are reading shitty books.
2. philosophy can be very /lit/.

The same would happen on a strictly philosophy board, some literature discussion would inevitable come up.

People who ask for one are idiots. It would kill /lit/ and attract pseuds like flies. Philosophical discussion is best kept cloistered away from the masses.

>> No.14542541

>>14541379
If the absence of off-topic threads would kill the board, the board deserves to die. But, more likely, /lit/ would return to actually discussing literature, and /rp/ would become a containment for pseuds from many different boards. It would be beneficial to the site as a whole for these threads which currently derail multiple boards to have their own board, the same way that the existence of /x/ effectively cleans up the whole site.
