I'm a fedora but I want to read the Bible purely for its literary merit. Should I just read it cover to cover? Also, which translation should I read?

fpbp. NRSV if you want literal accuracy without the English poetic beauty.

>literary merit
Judged outside of its religious influence, the Bible is one of the shittiest books ever written. It's a plotholes galore fantasy schlock with repetitive prose, terrible characters who act irrationally, preachy moralism, stories that go nowhere and botched metanarrative in desperate need of an editor.
Just read something slightly less terrible, like Lord of the Rings.

Nice quads;

Also

>preachy moralism

WOW it’s almost like it’s a religious book about morality

Also, from a historical perspective, most of the ‘plot holes’ are just the natural result of transferring a work from an oral tradition to a written tradition

For instance, it’s well-known that the modern version of Genesis is basically made from three different oral versions put together

I guess you’re right in that it needs an editor?

The four gospels. Each one is short and very readable. St. Mark, St. Matthew, St. Luke or St. John, just read AT LEAST one of the gisoels. They’re biographies of Jesus’ life. Each one is equal to the whole old testament, and they’re all short. You can read a gospel in two hours.

The old testament has more literary value, but you gotta read the new for that ending bruh
