I.E. have you ever struggled with an author initially, but then came back later and really enjoyed and better understood their work?

I had this with Borges and in particular Labyrinths. First time trying to read it, everything went above my head and I understood nothing and I found it tediously written. I wanted to like it but couldn’t. I came back a year later, much better read, and suddenly it clicked. I found it to be a truly great experience, things felt ‘clearer’ in a sense, and the stories went from tedious to fascinating surrealist writings. I can safely say Labyrinths became one of my favorite books, though I admit I didn’t touch the essays.

The real pleb filter is the feeling that you need to finish every book

Got filtered hard by pic related. Hated it so much it made me angry, wouldn't believe it might be that I was a pleb. Tried again about five years later and it's brilliance, and my past plebdom, became clear

If you don't, you've wasted time. What's the point, then?

This was me with Borges, too.

yeah what the fuck is up with people saying Benjy's section is even hard at all in comparison to quentin's? just because of 'muh, time flashforwards/backwards' benjy's is considered harder, but thinking quentin's is simpler is the real pleb filter.
