You're an extraverted intuitive trying to be a bugman, its not going to work, you'll kill your soul.

You likely have qualities that aren't rewarded by conventional bug education, such as:

>intersectional thinking (when matured this becomes systems thinking)
>highly abstract associative linking
>openness to experience

This conduces to appreciation of art, emotion, unusual ideas, imagination, curiosity and general info junkie behaviour

Read Narcissus and Goldmund to learn about yourself, and why its the superior faculty.

You're acting with a subconscious higher level strategy in response to 'the whole'

The bugmen will tell you you're unfocussed and shallow as if its a bad thing, and tell you to specialise.

Op here, this is literally me. How can I survive then, I need a job, I need a career, I'm not sure I can make it as a creative. Yes, it crushes my soul, but what's the alternative, I can't go back to hunter gatherer days, I would make a fine hunter. I considered the military but it pays awfully.

You have to follow one course until satisfied.
Here's what you need:
Cup of White Tea (learn how to steep it properly, less than 4 minutes in water that is not hotter than 185F.)
Then get to work.
Work on it.
When a distraction comes into your mind.
Stop take a sip of tea. Control your emotional urge to take the distraction detour. Get back to work.
You have to WORK.
Finish your project then reward yourself with the research.

The first movement is quite possibly the greatest piece of music ever written: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHQVtYzjLao

1. Stabat mater dolorósa
juxta Crucem lacrimósa,
dum pendébat Fílius.

At the Cross her station keeping,
stood the mournful Mother weeping,
close to her Son to the last.

It would be in your interest to learn the basics principles of Latin and then compare the many differing translations, some for the feeling and intent of it(as above), others more literal. As you should know, Latin is a highly inflective language. As well as learn the background to the piece, no words can describe its pure bliss other than in the necessity of the image itself, the Crucifixion of which Mary lays her weeping head.

That is a context where this kind of attention pays off, reading patterns in the total situation, monitoring multiple aspects of your environment at once, deep intuition.

Unfortunately this is bug world and very few of us 'make it', sometimes you'll become an actor or writer if you're lucky, most likely an isolated yet optimistically suffering slightly bohemian well meaning jack-of-all-trades.

I've tried 100x+ to be what I'm not, to cultivate focus and discipline, it. just. doesn't. stick.

Accept what you are: ahead of your time.
In a holistic society you'd be valued, but in a commercial society, you're an externality.

Ooof, maybe I should try Buddhism to cope?

I understand what you're saying, but I feel like I can still be disciplined and focused, I'm still young, with time I'll naturally become more industrious, almost everyone does, but I have no intentions of becoming disciplined to spend my days in an office pushing code, I want discipline to accomplish things I genuinely want to do and am putting off either due to fear of failure or genuine lack of focus. With age and more education I expect to learn this skills eventually. I'll never be a Jocko Willink, Good. I don't want to be like that, I just want some sense of control. PS: I think pic related is what happens when someone like us (way smarter than me at least) reluctantly joins the system, it's not all so bad.

Thank you for your elucidating thoughts.

Pro-tip how to detect pseudo-science: it tries to sound complicated without being complicated. Despite its attempts to sound complicated it has no threshold of the entrance. Too much super-wide and vague bullshit that with closer look may apply almost to everyone. Voila.

Even being such a meme as real psychology is it still requires you several years of learning just to enter the field. Even all these meme psychologists who take $100 just for a visit who have no clue what they are doing had to read at least Jung and Freud which have enough material to make you busy for a half of the year. All this **TP requires NO learning but instead you read some articles or watch some videos about brand new science, living the illusion that it appeals to you and really does something with your life. Just like horoscopes. Right now you feel great and smart, but then you will realize what it is and the decaying illusion of greatness will bring you down. Don't do it to yourself.

Try looking up Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training. Probably the best method of behavior change to date. Extensively researched and the results are incredible. Originally meant to handle quite difficult behavioral disorders but also found to work exceptionally well for common problems that people have.

A good first book to really sink your teeth into that will give you a good amount of theory (without bogging you down) and exercises to help you follow the process and understand it is: A Liberated Mind: How to Pivot Toward What Matters by Steven C. Hayes.

No problem. I won't say it's "easy", but it's a simple to understand approach. There's a staggering amount of research that has been done on it, and it continues to be researched.

It's a mixture of strategies that stem from mindfulness and acceptance of one's thoughts and feelings. And one great part about it is its utility. You can really use the approach for anything. Habit change, goal-setting, getting out of negative thinking patterns.
