Silly image. Of course, they resemble each other. In fact, both are influenced from common streams -- namely meditative report.

In a past thread I asked where I might go to find a Taoist spiritual master since so much of the lineage is either dead, or corrupted by the communist infiltration. Someone in a past thread told me of a man named Uncle Ji that lives above a Chinese restaurant in midtown Manhattan.

Well I went to visit him, and the anon was right. The man was surprised I knew, but when I realized I knew, he quickly let me in to his house. I sat down before him and he gave me a lecture about what the process would entail. Long story short, I am soon to depart to a initiatic Taoist fraternity in the woods near a Chinese community in America. After I have progressed there, I will depart to China to meet the man from whom our American master recieved his initiation.

Seek and ye shall find. All masters east and west have universally acknowledged the fact that a spiritual master will appear when you are at the proper level.

Let's talk about TRUE eastern philosophy, namely Christianity.

>> No.14451348

>>14451297
This is unironically a more complex topic than one would believe. Catholics have been in India for nearly 2000 years and versions of it reached China every early as well. When the emperor expelled the Buddhists from China, Christianity was considered to be a branch of Buddhism. Rather bizzare, but interesting to think about nonetheless.

Its not really meant to be read in any order. These are collections of speeches, and not a narrative in any way. A couple of the Long Discourses are narratives but they're not linked in any order to others in the book. The Parinibbana Sutta is halfway through (in my edition) for example.

That being said, just reading the Canon may not be your best bet. If you haven't, its better to have a more structured introduction to Buddhism first, and understand how your lineage of choice interprets them, than to just dive on in.

Saṃyutta Nikāya is believed to have been the earliest nikaya that was put into the form we know of it today. So I would probably start with that one. Saṃyutta Nikāya is The Connected Discourses. Although this doesn't necessarily mean that all the suttas in it are the oldest, some of the oldest are Rhinoceros Sutta and Aṭṭhakavagga, both of which are found in other NIkayas.

Marxism and Christianity both have their strongest holds in the south. With the exception of some tribal communities elsewhere.
