Yes for an intro into contemporary analytic philosophy. Or just generally the anglo-american academic zeitgeist on a particular topic. They also tend to include a historical survey, but again, within the context of what is considered historically important by the current academic established. I think they're are good as reference material, though I'm not sure if I'd read them cover to cover.

I don’t dislike the essays in most Oxford Handbooks but I typically read Stanford Encyclopedia online and then find other secondary literature to the topic I am researching other than something in the vein of Oxford Handbook.
Often times I end up reading actual books by one of the essay auhors from the oxford handbook though.
