Most modern ones are going to gender inclusive language. Even the NASB is in 2020.

You could try the ESV.

Please no high brow comments of memes. I heard the NIV version is bad, was wondering if there is a version thats true to form and easier to read.

Why don’t you just get a guide for the kjv
T. Someone who has never read the bible

>> No.14391359

There's no need to hyper focus on particular translations and worrying about getting the right one. With the internet you can easily compare the different interpretations of the text. If you eventually start to study scripture seriously you're going to end up you're going to end up reading different translations anyway so you don't have to pick one. What you need is a bible you can easily understand, so this rules out meme shit like the KJV which use older English styles. Additionally you need something with a commentary that can explain ambiguities and some of the more esoteric meanings of the text.

The Ignatius Study bible is the best and most thorough New Testament commentary available. The guys that made that are coming out with the Old Testament sometime after the new year. The Little Rock study bible is a good option too.

The issue is the language used then was completely different than whts today. I mainly read older russian literature but reading the kjv bible is no easy task, im more interested in

>> No.14391720

If you like the KJV get the Reformation Heritage Study Bible. It has the archaic words defined at the bottom. Once you learn them you will remember them and you will be expanding your vocabulary in the process.

Is that confirmed? I know you can get a fair few OT books standalone but there's a fair few gaps. The Ignatius NT is great.

Scott Hahn said it was done and in the publishers hands at a recent Steubenville talk. He said it should be out early 2020 but couldn't be specific since it takes such a long time to edit/print.

The Revised Standard Version (RSV) from the 1950s is quite readable and well-grounded. The NRSV is a later revision that is mostly identical but includes "gender-neutral language", which I think obscures the meaning of the text in important ways.

The gender neutral language is bizarre

the Bible is by and about jews you retard and the KJV is very easy to read

It's actually more accurate to the original languages. It does sound weird in English though and I'll never be convinced the motivating factor behind it isn't political.

Why are you so upset? You seem new, i was referring to translations being subverted. I understand the book is by jews. Maybe r eddit is more up your alley

>The Ignatius Study bible is the best and most thorough New Testament commentary available.
while technically true if you want a full new testament commentary, the best commentary on the gospels is hands down aquinas' catena aurea. i'm talking 2500+ pages just on the gospels, where the ignatius is 500 on the whole NT, though it does have larger pages. both are essential, but i have no idea why the catena aurea doesn't get memed as much as the ignatius

Everyone is doing gender inclusive, so NRSV is good choice

>> No.14392093

also check out the knox version, its more flowery than the literal translations but still with modern syntax, making it highly readable even for brainlets. its definitely not a study bible though because its not broken up into verses, but rather paragraphs.

>It's actually more accurate to the original languages
They are reputable scholars who say that, but I don't see it. ἀδελφοί literally means 'brothers' or 'brethren' in Greek. I get why contemporary Christians would prefer more inclusive language, but that's not what's literally in the text.

Get the New Oxford Annotated Bible (I use the fully revised 4th edition). The translation is the NRSV, but I really don't see the issues of readability people talk about and it's the best compromise between being true to the original manuscripts while still being readable.

For a strictly literal translation of the NT, I recommend the Disciples’ Literal New Testament, available free here: http://literalnewtestament.com/wp-content/uploads/DLNT.pdf

Yes. But you should know that every single recent translation does gender inclusive thing, even those "conservative" one is doing at least "person"

Yeah, and it's basically irrelevant. I'm as traditionalist and conservative as anyone and it's such a minute drawback compared to how extensively annotated, scholarly, and thorough it is.
