What are the best books in order to recover my brain from shallow web browsing and porn?

I have been a neet for a year and I feel like it massively damaged my attention span and ability to concentrate

I’m now attending classes and I feel like I have constant brain fog and I can’t keep with deadlines
I also waste hours on the internet without doing anything productive

I have the same issue dude. Recently though, I finished Asimov's "I, Robot". Basically a short story collection with a chronology, consistent lore, and a recurring character. I found it to sometimes be predictable, but it was engaging and short. I liked it overall, and I was able to read it despite my fried brain.

The problem is I have few days where I’m pretty productive and manage to get something done but then I want to check out something on the internet/YouTube I go on a 8h internet surfing spree and just browse useless stuff on the internet - it’s like I’m a zombie who clicks link after link, barley remebering anything
Because of these sprees I already bottled several important exams/Project deadlines and now Im in serious trouble

Also Most of the time I keep daydreaming during the lecture and i feel like everyone is twice as smart, I cant focus in anythink Like I used to and feel like a massive brainlet

probably some shit like dubliners, maybe as i lay dying, or shakespeare. basically something attention-grabby and divided into lots of short sections so you get a sense of accomplishment you can use to wean yourself off the internet.

i still find myself preferring books with fewer words per page because turning the pages gives my lizard brain a dopamine boost that makes me read it faster

Why is this happening so much? Why is everyone so depressed and confused? Why is politics so shit, no one is happy about it one way or the other.

I think its more a technology related thing
easy accessible cheap entertainment like video games, pleb tier tv series and porn are a pretty big factor because its the easiest form of escapism

>> No.14372129

>>14372054
I also think it's technology based but I think escapism is only one of its arms.

Human relationships are obliterated.

Before you had your local friends and you tried to get along, now if you like a very specific thing (like if you are a fan of a show or if you are a nazi, it doesn't matter) you get to talk to your own little group. Eventually inside your group everyone exchanges experiences and references and the whole thing develops quite fast. When you return to the world, you take your own niche narrative of what's going on and everyone else's look even more alien. So the feminist, the incel, the gamer, the left, the right, bronies and other fetishists, flat earthers, what have you, everyone talks as if they have everything figured out saying the others are just caught up in illusions, no matter if you are right, wrong, or (what's more likely) partially right and wrong about things in life. No one really feels part of something real, so they get overly attached to very specific causes without looking the whole picture, they get addicted to their own religion and interests, they wave their nations flags but have no idea on how to live for what it stands for, they get attached to their own identity. Everyone feels like there is a huge danger and this calls for urgent measures, but then everyone acts about it at the same time to opposing ends, so the conflict intensifies and people think even more that it is a matter of brute force, that they just didn't went there hard enough.

Not only that, but romantic relationships, friendships, work, all of that change. You work 24/7 because your boss can text you at any time, at the same time he "takes it easy" because there is a cool environment with ping pong table at work or something. I'm not a moralist when it comes to relationships, I don't care how many you have, but stuff like ghosting people or misunderstandings from text messaging and gif messaging are more and more common and makes it disposable. Top that with the previous problem and you get everyone afraid of everyone.

you web-browse "shallowly" because you yourself are extremely shallow, with pathetic standards because you yourself are pathetic, look at banal content because you yourself are banal. It is like dangling keys in front of a monkey: it could be entertained for hours. You don't do anything productive because you have nothing to offer the world. Because you are a failure, you feel guilt from the pressure of those on top of you, those above you, those who do have something to offer. Advice: if you have nothing to offer, then don't become a neurotic and just accept your shallow browsing. You already are decaying, with your propensity to happiness, so you might as well not try to fix anything, because your attempt at fixing will probably just make your situation worse.

Does anyone else have this problem, where they feel like if they didn't start the day super perfect then they stop bothering with the rest of the day? I've recently realized that I do this, if my day didn't start out EXACTLY as I planned, then I just lazily get throught it. I've become worried, because this is essentially wasting your days away, and my time on Earth is finite. How do I carpe diem, in the sense that I still make productive use of the day even if it didn't go exactly according to plan?

Sorry anon but this take is retarded. Yes, the majority of people won't manage to lift itself out of the slums of dopamine farming and hentai addiction. Using that fact to psych out a guy who's realizing the hell he's in and asking about an exit is unnecessarily cruel. Even shallow people deserve to at least find some hobby or interest that actually feels satisfying, instead of this steady dribble of cum and guilt and perverse humor. Even if reading books and improving oneself is beyond the abilities of many posters, taking up the habit of volunteering for a cause or gardening are just two of many alternatives that won't cause brain damage.

you are probalby facing "information fatigue syndrome"
Spend some time each week without your phone.
Resist advertising
Reject consumerism
read "Data Smog" by-David Shenk. learn how to distinguish between data smog and valuable knowledge. learn what is data fasting is and how to do it
>>14371400
>according to Data Smog, with the advance of technology, we have been able to progress in terms of society, economy, and even health. Communication is instantaneous, knowledge is abundant, and as humans we try to keep up with this expansion of data that continues to accumulate from around the world.

>However, it is the overwhelming amount of information that is defined as data smog; "this unexpected, unwelcome part of our atmosphere, an expression for the noxious muck and druck of the Information age."[1] The wealth of information is harming some because of sheer amount of it and rate of production: "The sheer volume of information which many of us are exposed to every day may actually impair our performance and add stress to our lives."[2] In fact, according to statistics provided by Shenk, “In 1971 the average American was targeted by at least 560 daily advertising messages. Twenty years later, that number has risen six fold, to 3,000 messages per day.” [1]

>It is argued that "Just as fat has replaced starvation as this nation’s number one dietary concern, information overload has replaced information scarcity as an important new emotional, social, and political problem."[1] As per David Lewis, PhD in psychology, this attempt at consuming the majority of data, the result is what he calls "information fatigue syndrome."[3] This term refers to the data smog that we encounter daily that ultimately interferes with our sleep, concentration, and even affecting our immune systems. [3]

>According to clinical psychologist Michelle Weil "the problems stem from people’s overuse or misuse of technologies and from technology’s ineffective presentation of information, researchers are finding."[3]

It's gonna all be in your head, throw yourself into the projects or exams and I'm betting you can do them. Blocking websites isn't going to do anything for you, just find a reason to pass (which from your ticket it sounds like you already have). >Also Most of the time I keep daydreaming during the lecture and i feel like everyone is twice as smart, I cant focus in anythink Like I used to and feel like a massive brainlet

Used to feel the same way, discovered that I'm in the upper echelon of intelligence in my college since applying myself more. Couldn't focus and didn't care to before. Just wanted to sleep, masturbate, surf 4chan and daydream about being an alpha millionaire with a harem. You have these problems because you are having an existential crisis, until you make an attempt to address it, nothing will change. I know this is cliche, but the biggest change happened in me when I read the Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky and found faith in Christ. The chapter of the Homilies of the Elder Zosima in particular had a profound affect on me. Studying about the crucifixion of Christ brought it home for me. I always hated man for his vanity and insolence, though I was an atheist and was most guilty of vanity and insolence of all. I had the typical "I got mine" mindset that pervades modern society and didn't really care about other things or people nor their sufferings all that much. The suffering of man has become trivialized since we've become so desensitized to it nowadays for reasons you could write a book about but are not relevant to this post. Seeing God as Christ accepting the torments and follies and grotesqueness of man by allowing himself to be mocked, beaten, crowned with thorns and crucified by them gave me the realization that God has affirmed our worth despite our errors and extended himself onto us, taking the shape of a man and feeling in himself the despair of man as we do. By doing this, he has comforted us for our need of him and has affirmed his love and even devotion towards us, out of the sympathy he has for our sufferings. I have never been the same since realizing this. Little by little, the way I view life changed and so did my attitude towards it. My STEM courses weren't so dreadful, staying up late at night working on a project wasn't as dreadful, the constant day-to-day problems that would constantly crush my soul weren't so bad. This is because I know nothing could take away the backbone of my life, my faith in God and Christ. Life is still hard and I still feel apathy and dullness, but the cloud of despair over my life has lifted somewhat and somehow I feel that I am happy despite my surface depression now.

Don't try to read. You'll just end up staring at the page daydreaming about cooming.

Get a pen and paper and write in one big long unbroken stream of consciousness about any topic you want.

If you're making up a story, make it up out of order if you have to. Just write literally every relevant thought you have with a pen on physical paper. Some cool anecdote about the villain? Something about your life. A goal. A fantasy. A story about Robo-Marx launching Soviet nuclear missiles at Lizard Jesus. Whatever the fuck you want.

Just don't stop.

Try to get more sunlight too. Write outside if it isn't too cold. When you do, leave your phone inside under your fucking bed, and turned off. Phones are like a more nightmarish AI powered version of Orwell's telescreens. Google knows everything you've ever coomed to and everything you've ever searched and everything that's ever been typed into your Android phone. Not to mention the speakers and the mic. Fuck phones. Keep the thing in a lead box if you have one. Phones are designed to make you stupid. Everyone knows it. It isn't even secret. People are just too stupid and compliant to care so now there is a basal sort of societal consent for it. Nobody cares as long as they can stream Netflix and porn on demand. Now the fucking things have games on them too. Pretty fucking good ones in some cases too. All powered by micro-transactions to rape your wallet, you dopamine addled whore. Weed is getting legalized everywhere too. That stuff is fine for most people but a minority of people get really fucked up. Even more zombified. Even less capable of thought. Even more ambitionless. Even more passive. Even more inclined to consume. Even more I climbed to coom.

Solitude and sunlight OP.
