>One could argue that everything is an imperfect mimicry of that which is imagined in your head. That doesn't make the real any less important.
The imagined is, in any materialist interpretation, just as real as all other forms the material Universe can take. There is no hierarchy because there is no comparison. You're juggling two different mental models in your head and trying to pick your daddy is stronger variant. Idealism can, however, differentiate these things and evaluate them by their own belief systems and histories.
We select our mates, we don't accept just anybody. We require some level of attraction, and as such, the model of 'feminine' has to be more perfect in our knowledge. The ideas are not just nonsense appearing in a mind, though their sequencing might be, they are direct references to existence as such.

>And where did the idea of femininity arise if not from the imperfect feminine personification?
Consider where we come from; apelike ancestry - and we evolved towards something else, closer to what our art shows than the mere biology that the Science stasi left us with. The idea is permanent, and this (womankind, traps, art) is its local, species-wide manifestation. We recognize paintings of women and femininity, and indeed, we can learn to recognize femininity and masculinity in other species as well. It's easy when the dimorphism is emphasized, with many mammals and birds, in behavior (local form across time) if not in direct appearance. Our tastes and choices select who we make our offspring with, and as such, the phenomena of attraction, the models, ideas, situations it seeks direct our evolution.

There are plenty of other species that do manifest masculinity and femininity as separate, however, it's not a Universal rule that they should be all that distinct. There is likewise, no necessary reason to keep humanity as dimorphic species, and we could breed out of it if we manage to desire it enough.

Wrong. That attitude is how you select towards Angler fish.
The female is only worth anybody's time if it seeks the feminine (or equivalent, valuable) ideals. This will be apparent in choices, cultural emblems, speech, posture etc, and you get to weed out low quality females based on this - just as they do for males and masculinity.

We wouldn't need to learn gender roles from our parents and culture if you were correct. We'd just be vageena posting on FB like Indians.

I don't understand it either.
The men at my work have 0-2 pairs of shoes at their desk. I have one that I change into once I get to the office (Chicago here, dress shoes don't fare well in winter).
The women, however, easily each have four. One of my coworkers left recently and had eight pairs.
It confuses me. Sure, we all like to feel like we're looking nice, but most of your day is spent sitting at a computer. They're not salesmen, and most of the people here only talk to their coworkers. I plain don't understand it.

>David Foster Wallace once wrote a piece about David Lynch. In the piece, he coined a new term: "Lynchian". Wallace described a Lynchian tone as "the unbelievably grotesque existing in a kind of union with the unbelievably banal."

>He described a husband beating his 1950s housewife to death because she bought the wrong brand of peanut butter. "I told you to buy the JIF," he'd say as he's clobbering her to death. This, he said, would qualify as almost perfectly Lynchian.

>I think "I Am Jazz" enters into Lynchian territory. The .webm above shows a simple domestic scene. The women look like average suburban moms. They're relaxing on the couch. One imagines they might be discussing casserole recipes when we cut to them. But it slowly dawns on us that in the living room, with placid expressions on their faces, they're talking about the woman's transvestite son's genitals.

>Despite the obvious subtext and the producers' hope to normalize this horror, the average person is totally disgusted. Nevertheless, the viewer is fascinated. We're drawn further into this. The sheer naked horror of what they're saying, the blasé quality with which they're saying it, it creates this brutal paradox that almost rapes the viewer's basic sense of what is decent.

Eh, fine. Earlier this year a relative of mine came to visit from germany, where she lives. She does this yearly because she has some property here, and also to visit friends and other relatives like us. She stayed at my great aunt's house for a few days, and I went there along with other relatives to see her. I'll call her Jane.
Now my great aunt, being an old widow, has a hard time when it comes to phones, computers, and that sort of stuff. So when the internet at her place stopped working, it didn't affect her at all, as the ones who really ended up using it where guests at her house and her late husband. The internet hadn't been working for a while now (you could log in to the wifi but not access the internet from it), and by the time we got there it wasn't working still.
Now Jane, not living here, didn't have mobile data or even a local phone number, but still relied on the internet to talk. She arranged to stay at her friends' houses, like she did wih my aunt, and then used the internet from those places to talk to other relatives and friends, arrange meetings, handle her activities here, etc. It was essential, in short. And for SOME reason, her phone managed to connect to the messaging app -- and that alone -- on the funky internet at my grrat aunt's house, so that there was no problem at all for her there. The essential was there for her and she wasn't one who'd stay in her phone for more than what was truly necessary.
Now me, being the internet addict that I am, and not having mobile data at the time due to a change in sim cards, began trying to, using the router's control panel, see if I could make it work again, since I couldn't open the browser and subsequently post here. After half an hour of messing around with settings, with many reboots, internet still wasn't working, since I'm a tech illiterate and waa doing it only because of my frustration of not being able to pass time the way I wanted to pass time. So I gave up, didn't think much about it, but then overheard Jane saying that her internet stopped working. And Jane is a kind soul. She really is. I love her a lot, so when I heard that being said I then explained I had been messing with the router, seeing if I could make it work (we had talked about how the internet wasn't good before, that's how I knew that she could use her app despite that). I asked her if she could access it now, and she said she could not. I asked her if that would be a problem for her, and she, being the good sould that she is, said that it would, but didn't get angry or demand answers, only became resigned, but in the most heartbreaking way that only I, at the time, could've experienced.
Now, utterly posessed by concern and desire to right my wrongs towards the ones I loved, overflowing with guilt, I began a long process of calling at the service provider, asking for instructions and whatnot. (1/2)

I'll spare you of the details, but only know that it was over an hour of desolate, heartbroken me desperately trying to atone for my sins against a terrible, miserable system employed by the company as means to detract any possible customers from having their issues resolved. It sucked and the already stressful experience was compounded by my impotent rage against this violated goodness.
In the end, I had an employee on the phone who, after multiple tries of trying to solve the issue with our internet from the call center, instead opted to send a repair team to our location. For smal, non-relevant issues to this story that couldn't be done, not because of the service provider, but because of us, and after all that, my lenghty spectacle turned out empty, and I was left devastated.
Now Jane, the good soul that she is, after having seen all of that, and after having heard from me that the issue still hadn't been fixed, and after having heard from me a million apologies, opened her phone again and went to wifi, with me by chance being next to her. Bear in mind that she was connected to the wifi that worked beforehand, and that I had ruined. After some seconds of searching, a new name popped up on the list, the same name as that network, but with 5-something at the end. She, much to my disbelief, gave a little 'aha!', clicked on the new network to connect, used the same password of the previous one, and, not only had her messaging app connection restored, but now had FULL INTERNET ACCESS. Whereas with the old one you'd get the wifi symbol with a small exclamation beside it, the new one on here phone was completely normal. She thanked me or something, but I don't really remember because I was truly baffled, and, instantly knowing what just had happened that quote resurfaced on my mind:
>In a second, the follies of men are undone
And I knew it. I knew it had happened. I knew that, opening my phone, or any other device, that network wouldn't be anywhere to be found, but I did so, like any good skeptic would, and nothing. All my long-winded, futile, fruitless endeavors, me trying to correct the wrongs I myself had inflicted upon others, in a SECOND leveled, completely correcter, masterfully undone by God. It wasn't an epiphany, but close. Remember that line anons, even if you take my story to be completely material. In a second, the follies of man are undone.
