Is Aristotle the most intelligent man to ever live? I remember in high school I always used to laugh when we were discussing something and his name came up. He literally came up in like every single class I took, thousands of years later and his name still comes up across multiple domains: chemistry, physics, math, biology, ethics, philosophy, and many more.

How was he able to be so insightful and so far ahead of everyone else? What was Aristotle’s IQ?

Yeah, his metaphysics are still taken seriously til this day.

>> No.14345838

It's basically impossible to shit on him when you take him in context. Sure, a lot of his ideas on the natural sciences, like physics and biology, have been proven incorrect. But he was literally writing thousands of years ago in ancient Athens. He was doing the best he could given his circumstances.

Even then some of his ideas weren't far off the mark. Didn't he come up with an idea about animals that's kind of like evolution?

no

>> No.14345910

I would not go so far as "most intelligent," but he does make a strong claim for most commonsensical. All of his findings are derived from sheer upright good sense: this is their glory and their limitation.

>>14345910
Oh also he's pretty fail in his attempt to systematize poetry and tragedy, because aesthetics is necessarily a place where common sense begins to fail you. But it was very influential, so an understanding of it is essential.

Meh. Plato was much more intelligent than Aristotle. And the greatest genius who has ever walked this earth is Dante.
