This relatively recent 4chan obsession with Upanishad sand Advaita supports the idea that human beings, the smartest animal, still desperately need identity and categorization to help them understand reality so that they can have something to cling onto. How many times have you reviewed Hinduism and Buddhism only to realize that they only 65% coincide with your own personal beliefs from your own thoughts and experiences. We need to stop trying to categorize shit (I'm guilty btw with the relatively recent 4chan infatuation with Advaita, though I've yet to peruse the related literature).

Honestly, both. When I enter a deep state of meditation I experience a form of emptiness, that is then filled with the world around me. The ego dissipates and I become my breathing, the thoughts going through my mind, my hands, my feet, the ground I sit on, the air around me. This creates an immense sense of peace and I guess what could be called "full being".

Those only appear due to maya and are not in themselves ultimately real. Within the transcendent witnessing Awareness appears the subject-object duality and when this vanishes the pure subject or the Awareness in which they appeared remains. When Advaita says reality is non-dual, they're not saying that our normal everyday thoughts and normal cognition is non-dual, quite the opposite. They are saying that the apparent duality of subject-object gives way to the non-dual subject in spiritual realization, but until then we are subject to the influence of maya and consequentially view things through a dualistic lenses.
