I'm just saying that, if you are on lit and feel that you need to read in order to flex, whilst nobody can check your claims about reading, you are pretty retarded. We can, thus, conclude that if you read and if you are on lit, you are reading for fun, and flexing on lit is not the primary cause. well, maybe i read too much into your comment "i don't know what i was supposed to answer" which could imply that you went through neurotic thought process i described, also the stuff you said about "human sounding" has very strange vibe as though sounding like a human is something you have to practice

qualifying yourself is explaining too much, giving too much detail. this is game 101, don't do this. and you definitely did overthink your response because you have this cogitation about whether its 'human nsounding' or not, and that made you add extra information. adding extra information is almost always wrong. worrying about tone is wrong, women are not that fragile they don't need or want to be coddled by your warm nice-ness, the question is what information she asked for versus what you gave. "what book are you reading and historical/biographic detail about author" are separate questions. maybe she hears the name and already doesn't give a shit about this subject any more, but you have blown past that and are now boring her with indiana jones and blah blah blah, who cares.

no i meant i don't know what i was supposed to answer in the sense that if a man had asked me that question i would have answered more or less the same way, that is giving an actual answer, and i don't anticipate that it would have gone poorly. so i am really asking "why and how are women different from men?"

what is "too much" detail? i keep asking this same question more or less, because i told you, just answering "otto rahn" would have been weird. you initially told me to lie and respond with a book i'm not reading but that seems weird and even manipulative to me.

if i want to stay within the realm of giving an actual answer, i have to face the problem that just the answer by itself ("otto rahn") is rude. i would find it weird if i asked a man "what are you reading?" and he replied "bill jenkins." i'd think, why do you expect me to know who this bill jenkins character is? i'd be waiting for him to continue and briefly explain who jenkins is.

i find the rest of your post unsettling. i hope you're wrong about women because the way you are describing them they are either mentally handicapped or psychopaths. in either of those cases i don't think it would be a good or dignified thing if you were to try to accommodate them by lying and contorting yourself in weird ways that you would not do if you were speaking to a normal person as an equal (i.e. a man).

>because i told you, just answering "otto rahn" would have been weird.
no it wouldn't. no it isn't. OK this is the crux of the issue, you think that responding to a simple question with a simple answer is "rude". it isn't.

Here, let me sample a completely normal interaction for you:
"What book are you reading?"
"I am reading X by Otto Rahn"

there's nothing 'rude' about this at all. title, name of author, that is all the information being asked for, so that's all you give. your thinking tha tyou have to tell a story to explain this information further without being asked is neurotic bs. this is what might happen afterwards:

"oh, who is Otto Rahn?"
"oh, what is the book about?"
or perhaps you interject a question yourself before this.

the point is that this line of discussion is a SEPARATE QUESTION. i'm telling you, you are coming across as tedious and overly available by answering more than one question at a time, trying to anticipate or jump ahead.

i don't think there is anything else about this for us to clarify, you either see my point or do not, so good luck to you.

I don't know exactly, except what I said before: I think it gave non-readers just enough fantasy to be intriguing without overwhelming them. Kind of the way Game of Thrones on TV gave people who don't normally do fantasy enough boobs and violence to get them past the dragons, though that mostly was a different audience.

I loaned the Belgariad to some HP lovers, and they just couldn't get into it. To me, it's better in every way, and I thought it was still light enough to draw them in. But it takes place fully in a fantasy world with different races and nations and things to wrap your mind around. I think it was just too much for them. HP was, at least at first, more like a magical corner of the real world, which probably made it more manageable for them.

Also, the trope of the mistreated kid under the stairs who is actually a powerful wizard is a potent draw for some personality types, and HP feeds that hard. That's why HP memes are so common on political signs for one side.

Sup intellectual /b/. I come here from /tv/. I hear I can post anything I want regardless of it's relevancy or quality as long as I am able to put an 'intellectual' spin on it or ask for a book recommendation.
I have a few questions for you guys, intellectual /b/.
>What is the philosophy behind COOOOMING!!?
>Are there any books that will teach me to COOM BUCKETS!?
>Are there any quotes or aphorisms on how often one should wash one's cumsock?
>What religion is best for me? Should I LARP as a catholic? I don't go to church and I masturbate to tranny porn daily, but I still want to shame other people for being degenerates.
>What is the epistemological ontological explanation for the existence of trannies with fat dicks? Has tranny idealism been written about yet?
>I'm an incel who hates women. I've never had a girlfriend in my life. I am fucking furious and feel the need to blogpost about my life. Any books for this feel? Don't actually give me book recommendations though, just respond with more incel blogposting.
>Are there any books that explore the ethical question of whether or not it is alright to fill the literature board with off-topic filth? Is it alright to post my incel woes here when /r9k/ exists? Is it alright to post off-topic politics here when /pol/ exists? Theology outside of /his/? Can I spam about Kanye West here when /mu/ exists? Is it really morally apprehendable to take advantage of the ineptitude of the mods?
