How do you cope with the fact that literature is a horribly niche hobby?
Should I start thinking of literature more of a tool than entertainment?
It just seems there are Subjects with a massive endless rabbit hole that you could spend your entire life reading about and there will be like 2 or 3 people that understand what the fuck you are talking about
It's such a boomer that you can't share your thoughts and experiences with other people, that is something 99.999999% of the population won't care about

>I have to discuss and share everything I do with others, I need my constant flow of validation paired with a sense of belonging to something that Matters
This is your brain on zoomer
Nothing is allowed to be solitary and personal anymore.

you may think of it as something that is done, for its own sake. You read a book, it makes you think, you think about it more, it changes how you think, and what you think, it lets you think more things. Since your entire existence is the process of thoughts becoming actions, surely the cultivation of thought is worthy.

Couldn’t you say that about most the boards on 4chan, though?

Regardless, yes, it’s lonely and you won’t find many regular people to connect to your hobby. At some point you’ll have to figure out how much you care and move forward with it or don’t. The world will keep spinning regardless.

Ah yeah I forgot how solitary humans were before the year 2000, how no one ever felt any compulsion to discuss things with others. Conferences, symposiums, message boards, meetups, clubs... All this came into existence only recently.

I dont mind not sharing my thoughts, but is the fact that the possibility of joining and sharing the experiences with other people seem to be out of the table

If you actually get into extreme niche reading, in other words scholarship, you can find other people on the internet. I'm outside of the academy but even I can find online forums and blogs for my interests, takes some digging but there are tons of people.

I find a lot of the benefit I get from literature is entirely subconscious.
Problem solving for example. You learn to approach problems from different angles

just be an edgy elitist, a bit too caught in his dreams, like you're still a teen who wants to be cooler than others.
being into niche things is great, it feels like a real specialty and it's interesting to explore, unlike surface level megapopular shit.
> my hobby is listening to music, watching netflix shows and browsing social media
this is what normies want you to think a HOBBY is.

Literature as a niche is based. It helps keep retards out. I say that we should become even smaller. I see a large amount of retards on /lit/, and you're probably one of them.

This is the truth. You have to abandon this concept that you have to use everything to climb your role in society. This is an entirely modern idea and it sucks, you don't have to market yourself. If you have to walk alone, walk alone. If you want to talk with somebody about literature, look for a community of peers like /lit/ or people in university.

This.
But nothing wrong with having a lonesome hobby in fact it's the most fundamental thing to enjoy in and about literature; suffering and loneliness.

I honestly don't take the opinion of anyone who doesn't read seriously at all, and they should be immediately discredited. It proves they have no real critical thinking skills and are just reactionary
