Anglos are associated with utilitarianism, empiricism, rabid moralism, puritanical religious confusion, and a nauseating lack of self-awareness in thinking that all of the aforementioned qualities makes them special. All of this creates for poor art.

Anglo authors tend to be more understated, oftentimes expressing emotions by leaving things unsaid, much in the manner of the Japanese. Continental Europeans, accustomed to the exaggerated emotions of the French, have a hard time picking up on the far subtler, more allusive style of the Anglo writer.

Anglos are insufferable especially because they don't have a clear idea of the literary traditions of other countries. They think they're the only ones in the world to produce culture. An unacceptable number of literary masterpieces from the rest of Europe (to make clear that I'm not talking about the third world) are not even translated into English. They so often talk about their novelists or poets like they were absolutely unique and groundbreaking, when in fact there are more obscure foreign authors who have predated or outmatched them. This forced mindset becomes annoying after a while, so they get what they deserve: contempt.

I can only assume it's butthurt. If they actually held English in contempt they wouldn't learn it and seek out English language platforms like the one we're on right now. I visit French and Russian websites sometimes and don't spend my time crying about how their literature and language are actually garbage.

They can go back and discuss their esteemed literary traditions with their own people, there is nothing stopping them, but instead they decide to hang around English speaking communities and complain that English people focus on their own literature and language. It's pure autism.

There's a reason culture flows from the Anglo to the other and not vice versa. If the other was so interesting and deep then Anglos would translate it to English, or the people of that language would, but as is it's just not important or desired to do so. If you're so intent on these foreign "masterpieces" feel free to translate them yourself, but odds are overwhelming noone would even care enough to publish your translation or buy it because there's already so much highly quality work in English and these foreign pieces are invariably over hyped by their local people.

Not really. Many Anglo publishers don't think in terms of quality most of the time, but in terms of best-selling and not best-selling. There's a lot of good works all across the world that haven't been translated to English yet. The fact that no one would care about them it's just a symptom of the times. Barely anyone reads the classic Anglo writers these days, so foregin onces don't even stand a chance.
>and these foreign pieces are invariably over hyped by their local people.
Anglos do the same, just look at the recent Booker Prize winners, does that look like Anglo quality to you? No. So this is a stupid thing to say on every level.

Fewer people read, actually. The peak was 1950s-1990s. The population is much bigger these days so of course book sales (and box office sucess) are huge but compared to other that era I mentioned they're very low numbers. Also, things being easier to publish is not necessarily a good thing. In fact, it's a bad thing. Borges talked about this.
>"People have bad taste" is terrible cope for being unable to publish your works or your nation's works.
It's true even for Anglo books. Just look at the best sellers. Is Rupi Kaur better than that obscure writer of quality?

That literally means more people read. Is our society less literate /capita? Yes. But so what, literary culture lives on.

> Is Rupi Kaur better than that obscure writer of quality?
No but it doesn't matter, it's still easier for obscure authors to publish their niche writings than ever before. It's still easier for the intelligent and underrated author who have important things to say (which btw is a much smaller group than people who think they're intelligent and have important things to say) to publish than ever before.

But nevertheless they're a success because of the geopolitical/economical status of their country, and the same goes for American books. Anglo literature is a success partially because of America. If America were German-speaking, like some wanted it to be, then German literature would be the king of the market. It's cultural imperialism.

It's not an accurate metric. We should consider the percentage of readers as compared to the population size. That's the fair metric. Also, many of your so-called readers read nothing but shit bestsellers, not Literature.

You're finally getting there.
