It has lasers, spaceships, energy shields, atomic bombs, artillery guns, advanced technology, etc.

Dune's from an era of sci-fi where books were less concerned about constructing elaborate psuedo-scientific explanations, and more about telling a story in a time period where the sciences have become preternatural.
