In Slaughterhouse Five he just briefly appears shitting his guts out in the prison camp, and in Breakfast of Champions he watches the breakdown of everything then kind of... Takes over and ends the book? Haven't read that one in a while.
Kilgore Trout is a bit of a self-insert too, but he's always an even crazier, more crotchety old man than the real Vonnegut.
